Do the Sens need to make major changes?
Wed, June 6, 2007

After watching Ottawa's run to the Stanley Cup final do you think the Eastern Conference Champs need to make major changes?

What caused the Sens collapse in the Cup final? Was it coaching, goaltending, defence, or just bad luck?

Have your say in our forum.

After reading many comments, it's evident that leaf nation has provided little or no value to this blog. Instead of critizing Ottawa's effort this year, how about stating the obvious.(Don't worry, there will be no mention of 1967.) Since the introduction of the Ottawa Senators in the 1992 - 93 season. Every Canadian Team has made it to the final, except for Toronto. Is it safe to say that this blog should read DO THE MAPLE LEAFS NEED TO MAKE CHANGES? Get over it leaf nation and quit wasting CANOE space with your nonsense comments. Ottawa put together a team that finally made it to the show, considering that the average team age was considerably younger than that of Anaheims. Ottawa has now built experience, yet will need to make one or two more minor adjustments But there is no reason as to why this team can not repeat their performance next year.

I don't think the so-called Senators fans are fans of Ottawa at all. They're just Leaf haters and just jumped on the nearest band wagon. Don't change the team, change the attitude of the fans.

As a Leaf fan I tried to warm up to the Senators in the final. But all the whining and whingeing from the coach on down just left me cold. Ottawa certainly has enough talent but they really need to work on the character and courage side.

As usual, the Sens need leadership, grit and goaltending.

A steadying presence with a Cup ring would help as well.

The Sens didn't show up for the 4th round, no sense arguing that...it is true. But to suggest that they should get rid of Alfie, Emery or Redden would simply be foolish. These guys had one bad series and unfortunately they lost the cup. I would say make a couple of changes, but don't get rid of your "key" players. Alfie is a great team leader and he proved it time and time again throughout the playoffs and the the regular season. Brian Murray is a great coach and has made this team come leaps and bounds...they made it to the Stanley Cup finals...they are the Eastern conference Champs, they are Champs to me and alot of other Senator fans.

You can do it guys...I will see you in the 2007/08 season!!!! Go Sens Go!!!!

Re: Thx4memories - Good season for the Sens but a bit of a leap to say they're the second best team in the league. There were 4 or 5 teams that could have come out of the West to beat the Sens. Check out the record for the Sens against western teams during the regular season. For 2006/2007 the West was the A league and the East was the B league.

I think that Heatley and Spezza will have a long summer thinking about what they should have done. They showed up for the first 3 rounds but ---

Alfie was great. He showed up to play every night. I know he blew it in game 4 but get over it he made a mistake. He is only human.

One thing I have to praise are all the fans in Ottawa. They are a class act. Even Ducks were envious of the support the SENS got. Any team would love that.

One last thing. The SENS conquered a lot of their demons this year. They finally won a game 2, they beat Buffalo and all that is left now is to beat the Leafs and that will happen - the Leafs just have to make to the playoffs first. Only teasing Leaf fans! We all have our crosses to bear.

SENS will be back next year stronger than ever. The Ducks didn't do the first time they needed time to mature. What everyone forgets is how bad the SENS were doing at the first of the season and they came back and made to the finals. Great work guys.

How can anyone say the Sens choked?!! Best team in the East, best team in Canada, second best team in the NHL!IF the Sens choked, then every team BUT Anaheim choked before the Sens, particularly the teams that didn't even make the play-offs. I'm thrilled and proud the Sens made it to the 5th game of the finals. WTG Sens! And for pete's sake, keep Alfie!

Yeh!!! Get rid of Muchler he is "Old" out of tough think about it he compared His Capt. to Mark the Moose one of the Greatest. Has he gone crazy....

Nice to see even more Sens fans having to bring up the Leafs - the Sens managed to make it to the finals, and all they care about is how the Leafs are making changes? Maybe the biggest change Ottawa needs to make is getting real, loyal fans who care more about what the Sens are doing than what the Leafs do. The Leafs may not have won a cup in 40 years, but the myriads of die-hard members of Leafs Nation I know don't spend all their time worrying about what changes the Habs, Sens and Wings are making, and especially not on a forum that's supposed to be about the Sens in the Stanley Cup finals.
