Do the Sens need to make major changes?
Wed, June 6, 2007

After watching Ottawa's run to the Stanley Cup final do you think the Eastern Conference Champs need to make major changes?

What caused the Sens collapse in the Cup final? Was it coaching, goaltending, defence, or just bad luck?

Have your say in our forum.

jw-- you guys in ottawa just don,t get it,the only prize in hockey is the stanley cup, period. nobody remembers who won the conference or if you go to the finals, dynasties and great teams are based on winning cups. when did you last win the cup.

Just wanted to say to all you Redden haters out there, yes he struggled most of this year, but he was still top defense with points on the Sens, top defense in the playoffs, other than the top line. What are you all complaining about. Get him somebody he can rely on as a partner, instead of him having to worry about 2 positions when he is on the ice. Let him play his game. He is an excellent defense man! Tired of bashing Redden all the time, move on!!!!

Eastern Conference Champs in only 15 years.. Well Done.. Leafs 40 years since they did that.. Enough said.. leave the Sens intact. Maybe the CBC will show more Sens games now instead of teams that don't win

Here we go again with the ultimate end-argument spewed out by every Toronto fan - i.e., GO LEAFS GO - as if that alone will spur their so called team to greater heights. Haven't you people noticed? They do "GO" - right down the drain every year, and with JFJ spending $10 million on 3 players - the chronically-hurt Antropov, the balding, fading 38-year-old Swede, and the only Leaf forward to sport a minus this past season (Tucker), rest assured 2008 won't be any different. Meanwhile, the Senators will again be at or near the top.

Another idiotic comment is the CHOKE label. They got to the finals and were admittedly beaten by a better team. That isn't choking. As for that equally-asinine assertion that IF, somehow, they had met the Leafs in the playoffs they would have lost - well, IF your uncle had different equipment he'd be your flipping aunt.

No I dont think Neidermayer deserved to be the MVP. He had a decent playoff but didnt really standout. I would have voted for Giguere first and Getzlaf second.

I cant believe that John Ferguson gave Sundin a 2 year contract at $ 5.5 million a year. Is Fergie losing his mind ? Last summer he overpaid for Kubina with a $ 20 million 4 year deal. Leafs should have used the money they gave Sundin on some younger players with speed and talent and start rebuilding now not 2 or 3 years from now when Sundin finally retires. Now what has Fergie have left to sign any free agents a few million ? Its gonna be another long season in Toronto with no playoffs again next year!! Fergie give your head a shake, Sundin isnt a $ 5.5 million a year player nor was he ever. I guess we will see more Marlies playing at the ACC next year because the Leafs dont have the money to sign free agents.

Watching the Raptors may be a good substitute for the Leafs next year, at least they are exciting to watch and will be in the playoffs again!!!

Sens were great this seaon again, most of the core group are kids who now have a wealth of playoff experience, Alfredsson is a proven leader with a great supporting cast, would be nice to see Sheldon Souray on the blue line with some gritty forwards to help when things get tough.

All in all a great season with lots of promise for a return to the finals next year, thank got the owner is commited to winning and not just the bottom line.

It's great to know that we don't just dream about making it to the playoffs some day or back to the Cup finals some century, otherwise our fans would turn into childish lttle morons with nothing better to do than critisize the real NHL teams in our league.

I like the way that Chris Phillips took away the middle man in that last game, he thought, "I might as well put the puck in my own net myself, instead of giving it away and having some Duck blast it in"....that was nice of him....didn't waste anybody's time, just put it into his own net....stupid senators....GO LEAFS GO!!!!!

Congrats Ducks you played a great series. Basically the Sens did not play in the finals the way they did in the first 3 series, which was, hit, throw the puck at the net and forecheck. They let the Ducks setup and walk around them!

Do the Sens need to make major changes, the answer is no. A couple/few changes i.e. Symth, Roberts would make great additions. Comrie, Corvo, Meszaros weren't too impressive.

While Alfresdsson did produce throughout the playoffs the 2 unsung players on the Sens throughout the playoffs were Fisher and Volchenkov with and honourable mention to the 4th line.
