Was Alfredsson aiming for Niedermayer?
Mon, June 4, 2007

Do you think Daniel Alfredsson was aiming at the Ducks captain near the end of the second period?

Could this play be a turning point for the Ducks? Will it give them any extra motivation to finish off the Senators at home in Anahiem?

Have your say in our forum.

It's sad to see Ottawa go down three games. I think the Sens are frustrated, but still need to show class in defeat Alfie needs to take responsibility for his actions.

It is truly sad to see the lack of objective argument posted in these pages. Instead we get, from the juvenile hats-on-backwards crowd, the usual "whiners" "chokers" "dirty" crapola that seems to be the extent of any attempt to be analytical. I realize that most of it stems from frustration at seeing their particular team fail repeatedly - especially fans of the Leafs - but in the final analysis it'spetty in the extreme. These are the same kind of people who think that, to win an argument, you must shout down the other person, and degrade players you don't happen to like with insults. Really mature. I don't suppose any of that ilk have ever read W. Somerset Maugham, but he perhaps said it best: It is not true that suffering ennobles the character: happiness does that sometimes, but suffering for the most part makes men petty and vindictive." Now get out a good dictionary and decipher that.

Alphie's move was not smart but it happened in the heat of the moment. I'm mad at the Ottawa fans bashing him now when he was a saint before this series began. I'm a habs fan that has been behind the Sens 100% since the playoffs started. The sens HAVE NOT CHOKED this year! They are in the finals for crying out loud. The ducks are the best team they've had to beat so far and it's tougher than they thaught it would be. Be please, stop the bashing, support the SENS until the final buzzer, nothing is impossible and if they end up losing, be proud of what they have accomplished this season, I know I will!!!!

Funny to hear Leaf Fans talk about choking!

I was at the game and it looked a little questionable to me.

I think the best way to do this is wait for the NHL to decide.

That should put this to rest!

Game tied, he's ready to shoot at the net (remember the goal against Vancouver's Cloutier?) he spots #27 and redirects his shot right at him, quite high too! Blatent intent to injure if I ever saw one. Then he proceeds to hide behind the linesman when he had a chance to pick his bench up with a good scrap (albeit he would have done all the recieving anyways). Tootoo got what? 5 games for punching the Dallas player in the head after he pasted Modano, Krusty was also throwing them with his back to the boards when he started the scrum. If the league overlooks this one, it's a shame.

Overall, you could sure tell Hasek spent some time fine tuning the Sens ability to take phantom high sticks, spears & body checks... right Emery, Neil and Krusty?!!

Canada's team? Not likely, more like a European soccer team.

Alfredsson is classless and gutless and is a perfect representative of the Ottawa "CHOKER" Senators

I think that he did aim the puck at Niedermayer. Also it should have been a penalty. The hole series has been chippy, and the whole playoffs has been plagued with poor calls or the lack of calls. No wonder players are doing stuff like this. Just for the record I'm not a fan of eather team. GO OIL GO!!!

Give me a break! It probably wasn't intentional. And in any case, has anybody bothered asking Alfie if it was on purpose? After the game in which Pronger almost decapitated McAmmond with his elbow, all the reporters were at his side to get his comments about the play. What did Alfie say about the play in question?

If Pronger had shot the puck that way, I would say yes it was probably intentional because he is that type of player, ie. dirty. But Alfredsson? He has no history of suspensions like Pronger (7 so far in the NHL, if I read correctly). So let's give Alfie the benefit of the doubt on this one.

I think it was most definitly intentional and classless. What's most amazing is he clearly gives the Ducks extra motivation and the Ottawa fans here try to point the finger at Toronto supporters..too funny

no class .. a true clown.. always backstabbing and then runs and hides a good leader for this type of team
