Was Pronger fairly punished?
Sat, June 2, 2007

This was not a playoff game Chris Pronger will want to remember.

The Anaheim Ducks stalwart defenceman kicked a puck into his own net and failed to block a centering pass that led to another goal. And then there was the play in which Pronger raised the ire of the Senators, when he hit Dean McAmmond in the head and knocked the Ottawa forward woozy.

Was Pronger fairly punished for his hit on Dean McAmmond?

If Pronger is not suspended it will only serve as confirmation that the league lacks credibility and consistency when dealing with repeat offenders like him. I like Pronger's game and if I were a coach or manager he'd be on my short list for sure. But in the spirit of impartial judgement, Pronger must be suplimentally disciplined.

I think the hit warrants a suspension, and given he was involved in a previous incident it should be 2, maybe 3 games. I don't know how their disciplinary scale ramps up for repeat offenders. I'll admit I'm a bit biased being a Sens fan, but to me this seems a little more clear cut goonery then the hit last round given it was after the shot, a clear elbow to the head in the open ice. How the refs missed it is absolutely beyond me.

If Pronger gets a game for this then there will be hundreds of suspensions down the road for this type of infraction. It was an elbow like many other elbows in the past.He should of received 2 minutes. Will Neal get suspended for his ELBOW on Macdonald?

What a goon that Pronger. And why no penalty? He should be suspended for the reat of the season.

This was a purposeful, nasty elbow to the head. If his intent was to slow the player, then hip check was an easy option. This 'man' should be suspended. Playoffs or not, he meant to injure.

Pronger doing what he does best, being one of the dirtiest players in the league.

He should get a minimum of 1 game. If it were the regular season it would be at least a 5 game suspension.

No suspension sends the signal that these kinds of hits are ok.. so watch out!!!

no, and i think alferdssons goal shouldnt of counted he kicked it hes an ol fart

No, but he should have been penalized for it. If they suspend him, they have to suspend Neil for the hit to McDonald's head at the board. But because that guy got up nobody talks about it.

How Pronger is considered 'Elite' is beyond me. All he knows how to do is hook, slash, grab and take dirty shots at other players.

My buddy predicted that he would be exposed as this kind of player more than once as the games go on.

If he wants to throw his elbows out at people he should join the UFC, someone said that he 'positioned' his elbow but if was clearly thrust out with significant force.

A 5 game suspension for a second offence is light but the least he should get. Next time he does it, and he will, he should be out for 25-30 games. Anything after that should be expulsion from the league.

One last thing, Getzlav is a moron if he thinks this is just 'part of the game'. Intentionally elbowing someone in the face (or back of the head) with or without the puck isn't part of the game.

The reason the refs didn't see the hit (I must assume) is because the puck was too far away for them to see it and the hit.

Of course, he should be suspended. It was definitely a high elbow to the head and a deliberate attempt to inure. Plus he's a repeat offender. But he wont because the NHL disciplinarian has no backbone and will not want to upset Brian Burke.
