Was Pronger fairly punished?
Sat, June 2, 2007

This was not a playoff game Chris Pronger will want to remember.

The Anaheim Ducks stalwart defenceman kicked a puck into his own net and failed to block a centering pass that led to another goal. And then there was the play in which Pronger raised the ire of the Senators, when he hit Dean McAmmond in the head and knocked the Ottawa forward woozy.

Was Pronger fairly punished for his hit on Dean McAmmond?

This whole affair just shows that the NHL is in REAL trouble!! No other professional sport allows an athlete to go after an opponents head, not even Aussie Rules Football!! Even boxers wear padded gloves to hit eachother but in the NHL it is not a serious matter to go after an exposed player with intent to injure with a forearm to the back of the head. The NHL is so afraid of influencing the outcome of the series, they decline to apply the rules and Pronger and players like him know it. Chris Pronger personifies what is wrong with the NHL game of today...a total lack of respect or consideration for other players!! Pronger should have been out for the rest of the playoffs for a repeat offense. He snubbed his nose at the NHL and they backed down! Now when a Senator tries to apply justice, the league will cry foul and throw the book at him. Seen it before!

Once teams are in the Stanley Cup playoffs then each and every player has only a limited number of "strikes" they should be allowed before they are out of the series. Each transgression that earns a suspension following an NHL review should mean that the next transgression by that player garners a stiffer suspension following a review, and don't mean for next season. The player injured by cross checks to the back of the head, elbows, running another person, or inflicting any injury that following an NHL review garners a suspension should flag that player with their first "strike". On the next infraction that warrants an NHL review leading to a suspension the games suspended are soubled (two games for strike two) and then on the third strike they are suspended for the remainder of whatever games are left for their team for the Stanley Cup playoffs. The NHL execs are then to make a collective review of the three strikes that this player was assessed theouth the playoffs. All trangressions that earned that player a suspension are then weighed together to see if there should be a suspension at the start of the next season for this player. A one game suspension for a repeat offender, when the other player may be out much longer, it NOT just, it is a farce!!!!

second hit should be at least 2 games or more but the NHL is run by the suits

What's he got to do, kill somebody?

Grow a pair Bettman and kick the SOB out for the year!

I think the today NHL is a flippin joke the penalties they call atrocious. Going back to the Detroit series late in the game they just make you shake your head. When's the NFL START!

He got 1 game which he probably deserves but why was the dirtiest player in the series, Neil, not suspended for his hit on MacDonald? Why wasn't alfie suspended for his dirty and deliberate check from behind on Tallinder? The league seems to have it out for the sens.
Bill Hanley, 2007-06-03 21:41:59

Why dosn't the NHL just give the STANLEY CUP to Senators for suspending Chris Pronger.First they let Alfredson play soccer for one goal ,than the suspension .can see what side the NHL is on?????

MUST FILL SORRY FOR THE SENS BEING OUTPLAYED SO BAD THE FIRST 2 GAMES/////??/
jeff laperle, 2007-06-03 20:08:20

I really think that the NHL should have taken this more seriously because this was the second time that Chris Pronger has done something stupid and undisiplined in these NHL Playoffs!! He should have be suspended for the rest of the playoffs!!!
jonathon, 2007-06-03 18:29:58

As many times as the Sens go down with just a light touch, it is hard to tell when they actually do get hit. They are the biggest baddest performance diving team around.....you would have to suspend most of the league during the year when they play the SENS

i have always given the benefit of a doubt to pronger until now! throw this thug out of the playoffs, and he should be ashamed of himself, cowardly deliberate attack and i have now lost any compassion for this so called elite player!shme on you chris
