Was Pronger fairly punished?
Sat, June 2, 2007

This was not a playoff game Chris Pronger will want to remember.

The Anaheim Ducks stalwart defenceman kicked a puck into his own net and failed to block a centering pass that led to another goal. And then there was the play in which Pronger raised the ire of the Senators, when he hit Dean McAmmond in the head and knocked the Ottawa forward woozy.

Was Pronger fairly punished for his hit on Dean McAmmond?

The NHL needs to send out a message. You are not allowed to take your hand off your stick and make contact with your glove on another player or you get 2 minutes. If you place your stick on another player it's another 2 minutes. The NHL commission is watching the game and should make an immediate decision when an infraction of this nature occurs. It should impose a game suspension at the time of the infraction and suspend the player for the next game. I feel that a 10 game suspension without pay should also be imposed.

I see one of the articles reads that "US papers turn cold shoulder to cup". With what the NHL allows to take place in these games why would they want to report it. Pronger should get the same treatment in the playoffs as he would have in the regular season. However, I watched enough games during the regular season to realize "elite" players apparently are allowed to play by differant rules.

The one game suspension is a joke! What ever happened to the repeat offender rule? Guess it doesn't apply in the "new" NHL. When the Governors meet to discuss the issue of headshots and getting them out of the game, perhaps they could put together a "greatest of" video from Chris Donger to open the conversation.

He probably deserved it, altough he didn't really hit McAmmond but he went down like he was hit by a train. Bytheway, how come Neil was not suspended for his hit? How come the dirtiest player in the league can get away with it, again? How come the whining Sens can get away with it all the time?

I think Pronger should be out for the rest of the seasin what are we showing our young kids that it is okay to be abig bully on the ice . Next and there will be hopefully someone doesn't died . Wake up NHL>

Second time in two weeks! Pronger should have gotten AT THE VERY LEAST, two games, PERIOD. Or, better still, not allowed to play until Dean McAmmond returned to the line-up

No. Pronger has been the subject of previous discipline. 2 games would be the next logical suspenesion on an increasing scale. The League bowed to the pressure of the Cup final

Too many fans want to add their own biased spin to the topic, but I'll try to take an unbiased opinion.

The hit by Pronger wasn't a check, it was a deliberate attempt to stop McAmmond from getting by. Call it interference if you will, but just because you weren't intending to hurt someone doesn't make it right. Pronger needs to learn to adjust his game for his size - if he can't do it, he shouldn't be playing hockey. The very reason why it was only one game is because the NHL does not want the outcome of the series determined by the officiating - on or off the ice in this case. Realistically, in a non-playoff game, his suspension would be much longer. Let's hope that officiating doesn't have to become a factor influencing the outcome of the series.

As this is the second time in less than a month he did did the crime he should have at least had a longer suspension than he did the first time. He should have at least got 2 games.

That sinister player is agressive and he is a good player but his aggression is not warranted when some one does'nt have the puck....He should be gone for the rest of the season....Or else bring him or let him play a game with us ..We would show him what rough play is.....

heh heh heh...
