Was Pronger fairly punished?
Sat, June 2, 2007

This was not a playoff game Chris Pronger will want to remember.

The Anaheim Ducks stalwart defenceman kicked a puck into his own net and failed to block a centering pass that led to another goal. And then there was the play in which Pronger raised the ire of the Senators, when he hit Dean McAmmond in the head and knocked the Ottawa forward woozy.

Was Pronger fairly punished for his hit on Dean McAmmond?

Pronger deserves a 1 game suspension for another dirty hit. I'm not an Anaheim fan at heart but I'm certainly nor will I ever be an Ottawa fan. You can talk all you want and point all the fingers you want but the bottom line is Ottawa is a long way away from sipping out of Stanley's Cup. Ottawa is and will continue to be the biggest CHOKE team in the NHL they have proven that for the last 10 years.

Pronger should be out as long as McAmmond.

Jeez, why don't they just take hitting right out of the game. Then next year we can have a mixed league, and Hayley Wickenheiser will center the Sens top line.

Hockey is the only sport where this type of cowardly violence is allowed. I would like to see a tougher punishment applied. I suggest 3 games.

Tall/short?

Like to see him try that bs on Chara.

Crying....that is all I hear from you Ottawa fans. Neil is clearly trying to injure players on the ice but yet Pronger is seen as the bad guy??? Wake up!! Pronger didn't take a run at McAmmond..he stuck his arm out. McAmmond has played hockey for how many years now and he still doesn't know that if you skate by a big defenceman he just MIGHT try to hit you???? What an idiot!! McAmmond should have gotten 2 minutes for crying and nothing for Pronger. GO DUCKS!!! Help us all if a whiny team like Ottawa wins the Cup...Lord help us all!!

It's interesting how the Sens' detractors used to claim they hated them because they were a "soft team" and now they hate them because they're "dirty". You people will say anything to justify your hatred of the team. You say Neil is dirty yet you'll stand behind the league's dirtiest player, Darcy Tucker, no matter what he does. The issue here is Chris Pronger, and yes, he's a dirty player and he deserved to be suspended. If anything, he should have received 2 or more games as a repeat offender. Pronger got off easy and you whiners will just have to live with it.

It was a dirty hit anyone saying that he did not move his elbow was watching another play. Pronger got off easy, he should be gone for the rest of the series.

For those of yo uthat say McAmmond took a dive and is faking all I have to say is hocky equipment nowadays is equivalent to football equipment.

I read in one of the posts that its because of Prongers size and smaller players and McAmmond ran into his elbow? There are a number of players in the league that are Prongers size and don't seem to have the same issues. Chara comes to mind, just as agressive but not as dirty.

Hey Peter, your post about the Sens whining and always getting their way...there have been a number of missed calls for both teams adn both teams are whining, so get a grip.

if burke gets his way and neil gets 1 game - then what does pronger deserve as a repeat offender? maybe burke should shut up because he doesn't know a good thing when he sees it!

Reason for punishment: 1. justice for act committed; 2. Deterrent to stop happening again. Pt 2 didn't occur so punishment should be more severe. And Alfie didn't move his foot until after the puck was redirected so it's a goal.
