OTTAWA (CP) - With Ottawa as the lone Canadian team in the Stanley Cup finals, it seems more and more people see the Senators as "Canada's team."
A new poll suggests most Canadians still see the Toronto Maple Leafs as the hockey team that most represents the country. Among the nearly one-quarter of Canadians who, when asked, said they are avid hockey fans, 27 per cent picked the Leafs as Canada's team in a Decima poll conducted last weekend.
No real Leaf fan or Habs fan would ever cheer for the Sens. So with that comment how could the Sens Be Canada's Team.

The leafs are and always will be canada's team, but i have to go with the ducks to win the cup.(and the ducks have the most canadian players on their team in the league) 19 of them are canadian.

Well, T, booing a player constantly for having some fun with his countryman and friend, Mats Sundin, is a graphic illustration of just how juvenile many Leaf fans have become. That is especially true when you consider that, should Alfie ever become a Leaf, those same twits would be lining up to kiss his derrière. Just as they did with Nolan, Lindros and all those other formerly-"hated" players who wound up bilking the Leaf organization of their cash for very little return. Except Alfie would give you value for your money.
As for this media-generated straw-poll as to which team is to be crowned "Canada's" I doubt if anyone with a modicum of intelligence has been drawn into the idiotic debate.

Sigh. The only reason why this question is put forth here is because we're talking about not the Leafs. If the Leafs were playing in the final, nobody would question the fact that the Leafs are Canada's team.
Also, people from other parts of the country that are deriding the Sens simply because they are from Ottawa need to grow up. The team does not represent the Government of Canada or a left-leaning political entity. They are an NHL franchise in a city that happens to be the Nation's capital. Our citizens are not all politicians or bureaucrats...

Lets face it here people. The rivilary that exists between Ottawa and Toronto is so strong that Leaf fans want anyone to win the cup besides Ottawa. Its simple....take the Alfie fake stick swing incident moking Sundin...Nobody forgets that...I hates the Sens just for that Reason..Hey, I like Fisher, Philips, and Redden....but hate the team

A previous poster said it correctly, Team Canada is "Canada's Team", and no one else. True hockey fans and true Canadians know better than to tell anyone who they should cheer for. I hate the Sens, but I have no problems with their diehard fans cheering them on when they act like decent humans. It's the bandwagon jumpers I have issue with - you know, the ones who will come crawling back to their original team when the Sens have a couple of off years...

My favorite team(s) are the original six... then the Calgary Flames :o)
bobfrantic, 2007-05-25 05:25:30
Sens in 6, but not as Canadas team due to the fact that they have the word 'Ottawa' in their name. Mike Comrie is a loser so it will pain me to see them win, but they will. At least I'll get to see Pronger cry when he loses, again. Go Oilers in '08.

T.C. go count again; you missed six(6) more Flames who are Canadian; I had a cat named T.C.! Are you reincarnated??
