Should the Preds stay in Nashville?
Tue, August 14, 2007

A local group trying to keep the Predators in Nashville is on the verge of signing a letter of intent.

Owner Craig Leipold has been working with a group of local investors to finalize a bid for the team since flying to New York on July 18 for a meeting with NHL officials.

Leipold has been trying to sell his franchise because he said he has lost $70 million since being awarded the team in June 1997.

This might mean that the team is not moving anywhere for now. Is this good news for the NHL?

Preds staying, for now

This comment is FULLY MODERATED.

Buffalo does NOT have a veto vote only reason they are trying to make any noise is that they draw from the same area the Hamilton ( golden horseshoe ) team will so it will hurt there attendance.

They are NOT in the 50 mile radius.

Hey Mike

What 4 teams are in Southern Ontario ? Last I checked there was 1, the make me laffs. Ottawa is in eastern ontario and have their own market. Buffalo is in ths USA and also have a market to themselves. Where is the 4th team ?

Who wants to buy a team in the NHL when there are probably 5 or 6 treading water ? Nashville isnt a NHL market and wont get the NHL a tv deal like bettman thinks.

Its sad that last year the Preds were a top 3 team in the entire league and struggled for fans. That says it all, they have been there for 6 or 7 years now, not 1 or 2. If there arent better established by now they will never be.

Move them out now while they can break the lease without a penalty, if they wait they will have to pay the city off.

Go Basillie Go.

Laughing at you wayne, do you wanna put some money where your mouth is ? Buffalo is NOT in the 50 mile radius. You are wrong as usual. Dont you get mad at being wrong all the time ? LOL

Basillie wil get a team, maybe Atlanta or Florida and a few others that are struggling.

Use a map with a string is hilarious. a classic wayne.

I would love to see the Preds stay in Nashville. It is good news for the NHL, especially for any future buyers of teams, cause with all the teams that have relocated becuase of failed markets, how many people are going to want to buy into a league with so much trouble. It would be great to see Nashville take off and become a hockey city. Some of you dont think that will happen, well one way that it will never happen is if you move a team out of the city.

As for you bettman haters, he is not snubbing canada, he is thinking with his head. To move a team into hamilton would be a bad move the region already has 4 teams, and why would anyone move a franshise into an area already so saturated in it. That is not how you grow a bussiness, you spread things out. Hamilton will never get a team or if they do it is i would say 30+ years away. If someone wanted to move a team back into Winnipeg i am more then sure bettman would be on board, and would be great for hockey getting another team into canada and not into a saturated market.

Fact is betman is trying to grow the team in league in the states, and to do that you need to be in thouse markets for exposure. For thouse of you saying he is destroying our game, it may have originated here but we sure do not own it. Also once again the people who want a team in hamilton are people from hamilton/southernntario and what they dont realize is that people outside of ontario cannot stand that attitude of hockey fans in southern ontario, it is not your game, you do not own it, so dont want to move another team down there just becuase the one you have is a do nothing team, if you want change then speak up to the leafs orginization and find out that once enough people speak things will change, players, managment. Then maybe you will drop this insane notion of wanting a team in hamilton.

Take a map, put the 50 mile string on a pin, draw a circle, from buffalo arena and the circle goes through hamilton. Buffalo has a say.

Hamilton will never get a team
wayne, 2007-08-02 15:12:56

wayne as usual you are wrong. Buffalo doesnt get a say as to Hamilton getting an NHL team, they are outside the territorial rights. Leafs do but they shouldnt, they dont own southern Ontario market. Ballard would allow Hamilton a team at a cost of millions.

The Leafs wont admit it in public but of course they are against Hamilton getting a team. They have alot of fans in this area and admitting in public would cost them alot of fans so they do it behind closed doors at the NHL offices and at meetings.

Basillie will get a team here its just a matter of time. There are several teams in the usa that are struggling and he will eventually get 1 of them for Hamilton.

I just wanna know why Bettman says who can or cant buy a team if they have the money ? He works for the OWNERS, not the other way around which he sometimes thinks!!!!!!!

That press conference in Nashville about selling to local owners has Bettmans grubby little hands all over it saying!!!!!!!

Screw off bettman, go ruin an american game like baseball or football since the nba doesnt want you and let a Canadian run the league and see how it will really take off!!!!!!
Jimmy, 2007-08-02 11:42:58

No Nashville isnt a hockey market, they will fail and move within a few years.

Yes Tony you are right, the little troll Bettman will risk ruining the whole league before he lets another team move to Canada.

Bettman is against Hamilton because of 2 things 1) he told Hamilton not to build an arena and we did so we defied him lol, 2)when the players went on strike back in 94 - 95 season Bettman didnt want Hamilton to let Wayne Gretzky and his touring team to play any exhibition games here, we allowed so thats a seond time defying the arrogant little midget.

Hamilton deserves an NHL team way before any American cities!!!! It will be a huge success and Basillie has even gone on record as saying he wouldnt take any of the league sharing funds.

Bettman must go!!!!!!!!!!

Anytime I see him on tv I turn the channel!!!!!!!

I hope the owners wake up and realize what they are missing out on with having Basillie own a team.

Go back to the NBA you little goof, oh yea I dont think you are wanted there!!!!!! just like you shouldnt be wanted by the NHL anymore!!!!!!!!
Jimmy, 2007-08-02 11:30:17

Tony, you can't be serious.

The leafs are the main stumbling block in this whole thing. Ballard would be putting up an even bigger fight. He would be suing anyone who even thought about trying to locate a team close to his leafs.
wayne, 2007-08-02 09:57:13

that little mental midget will do whatever it takes to keep the NHL out of Canada. I wish Ballard was still alive, he'd bury him.
Tony DiMarco, 2007-08-01 22:07:19

This team will be bankrupt or relocated within 5 years! They DO NOT have the fan base to remain financial viable, period! Good job Gary :(
