Should the Preds stay in Nashville?
Tue, August 14, 2007

A local group trying to keep the Predators in Nashville is on the verge of signing a letter of intent.

Owner Craig Leipold has been working with a group of local investors to finalize a bid for the team since flying to New York on July 18 for a meeting with NHL officials.

Leipold has been trying to sell his franchise because he said he has lost $70 million since being awarded the team in June 1997.

This might mean that the team is not moving anywhere for now. Is this good news for the NHL?

Preds staying, for now

Hockey is Canada. I have been to hockey in Nashville and they (rednecks) don't support it so move it where hockey is supported. Hamilton is perfect.

totally awesome!!! Hockey is a CANADIAN sport...we should have more teams here...I'm always first a Toronto Leaf fan, but welcome any team to Ontario...more rivalry in Ontario is only a good thing for this sport........

I hope it happens. The league needs a shake-up - big time!

I hope he burns in hell with Walter O'Malley and Robert Irsay.

awsome move...maybe we'll have a chance to bring the cup to canada...no hope with the leafs!!!

I have to admit, I'm very biased on this issue. I was born and raised in Hamilton. Even though I've been gone more than forty years now, I am still a dyed-in-the-wool Ti-Cat fan. I'd love to see my home town in the NHL, even if they have to become partial vegetarians and eat Leafs. Hamilton was one of the original four, and the only one that hasn't been revived. Hockey is played on ice, and belongs where ice exists naturally. With the salary cap in place, and parity in the league, it's time to bring the game home to its roots. Winnipeg, Quebec, Halifax and/or Moncton, Saskatchewan, London, and even Kingston, (say hey, Don.) Maybe the communities themselves aren't big enough, but they are surrounded by scores of smaller towns who would support them. It's no more unrealistic than it is to think Miami, Los Angeles, Phoenix, or Tampa will ever become hockey hot beds. Relocating the struggling Atlanta Flames to Calgary was so far the most brilliant move of any NHL franchise. Nashville to Hamilton would be just as successful, if not moreso. Good luck, Jim, and thank you.

I hope this pans out...even though I'm a dyed in blue Leaf fan,the time has come to get more teams north of the 49th.

Note to Jim...no matter where you decide to locate your Pred team in the Golden Horseshoe, don't name them after the city, but rather after the province.Something like the "Ontario"----- (Mounties/Blizzard...fill in the blank).

It would be prudent marketing and easier to get converts from non-native city dweller)...even the big smoke and Barrie boys like me.

Argo fans could never cheer for Hamilton..lol...Go Jim!

At the price he's paying versus the amount the team lost, the NHL should be glad a conglomerate other than Walmart is considering buying the team. As for where it goes in Canada , who cares, as long as as a Canadian city , east/west, think about it!

I sure hope he gets what he wants, another team in this region would be perfect put some pressure on other teams to compete instead of just making money, i hope it happens, just cant wait

For $500 you can reserve your name on a seat at Copps. What they didn't say is that it also includes a free tub of vaseline! C'mon Hamiltonians, how many times do you have to bend over to owners/future owners of NHL franchises who want to use you the city to get what they want. Hartford, New jersey, Pittsburg. They all used the "move to Hamilton or Else" card to strengthen their position. Do yourselves a favour , Hamilton. Stand up and say "NO Thanks!"
