Is there a lack of respect in the NHL?
Wed, May 16, 2007

Detroit coach Mike Babcock raised the issue of players respecting each other Tuesday night when Red Wing forward Tomas Holmstrom needed 13 stitches to close a gash on his forehead. Holmstrom was slammed into the boards on a tag-team hit from the Ducks' Rob Niedermayer and Chris Pronger.

"I don't care how much is on the line at any time, you have to look after the other player," Babcock said at the time. "When he doesn't see you and you decide you're going to bury his head off the turn buckle, that's a decision you make."

Where's the respect?

Yes, Pronger needs to be suspended. But did I hear someone say he has "very little talent"? That's news to me.

Suspended at least 2 games!!!! an IDIOT!!
Arnold, 2007-05-16 12:22:03

Yes! Prongers cheap shot on Holmstrom was premeditated and calculated and should earn him a minimum of 3 games. Much like Garry Roberts, Pronger gets away with too much and could be penalized on most plays. Unfortunately Colin Campbell won't have the guts to issue a lengthy suspension to a player and team that condons such actions. Also, I believe that Neidemeyer is preditorial in his own right and should have been suspended after his illegal and vicious hit from behind in the Vancouver series.

the guy's a loser. suspend him. a hit from behind should *always* result in a suspension. Pronger has done nothing but create enemies for himself, in edmonton, and now in detroit. wouldn't bother me if they threw him out of the NHL simply for giving them a bad name.

this is His MO. look back to the 2003 season, he played 5 games in SL. why is this important you ask, he was injured when Steve Yzerman ducked out of the way of a blind side high hit Pronger cruising in for. he is a dirtbag and his whole history should be considered in the punishment for this dirty hit.

finishing your check pronger what a joke you ran both your elbows to the back of his head deliberately..i agree with len your not as good as the announcers say you are..and colin campbell whats it going to take for you to open your eyes and start with harsh suspensions to the head a death on the ice from this type of hit..like j.r said wake up nhl wake up......

That was likely the nastiest, dirtiest shot I have ever seen.

Pronger knew full well the Neidermyer was going to lay a check into Holstrom first, there was no way he could miss it.

The original hit was a marginal hit and may be worthy of a penalty but Prongers was a head shot from behind on someone that was being held against the boards by another checker.

It could have ended a lot worse but that's not the point. Even the broadcaster for the game predicted that Pronger was going to pull something like this from the way things were going.

Up til now I have liked Pronger but that was entirely un-justifiable.

You bet, the guys a bum!! Nothing more than a liar, cheat and cheap shotter! Maybe his wife told him to hit Holmstrom and he got scared of her and did it! PS Pronger how are the extramarital affairs going for you in California.
shaykoz, 2007-05-16 11:51:00

Pronger definitely for the balance of the season, that was a deliberate intent to injure, what makes it worse, I would bet that was a planned tag-team effort, planned by Neidemeyer & Pronger, typical Burke team, shades of the Bertuzzi hit on Steven Moore.

I've lost all respect for Pronger.

Gary Graham, 2007-05-16 11:43:24

Yes Pronger should be suspended. I have no idea why the tv commentators are always singing this guy's praises, from where I watch the game this guy has VERY little talent. All he's got is size and reach. Every time he's on the ice a penalty could be called on him. Norris trophy??...give me a break. Goon trophy is more like it. He stinks!!
