Is there a lack of respect in the NHL?
Wed, May 16, 2007

Detroit coach Mike Babcock raised the issue of players respecting each other Tuesday night when Red Wing forward Tomas Holmstrom needed 13 stitches to close a gash on his forehead. Holmstrom was slammed into the boards on a tag-team hit from the Ducks' Rob Niedermayer and Chris Pronger.

"I don't care how much is on the line at any time, you have to look after the other player," Babcock said at the time. "When he doesn't see you and you decide you're going to bury his head off the turn buckle, that's a decision you make."

Where's the respect?

They both should be suspended for the rest of the playoffs. Cowards, the both of them.

Pronger got off too easy. A lesser known player would have sat out the rest of the year. Pronger is known for his cheap shots and lack of class but gets away with it. Ducks look for this type of play from their personnel and defend their actions. The team, coach and GM needed fines and Pronger needed to start his summer break.

I know a GM is out there to PROTECT his players but is Burke blind or retarded that he couldn`t see what everyone else saw. Only one game give me a break to a HUM star player,,, Gordie

Definitely. The NHL wants to get of all these head shots; however since he is a "superstar' he gets only one game? If it was a mucker out there i gurantee you they would get a minimum of 3 or more. As for Burkes comments, he is a whiner and always has been, and he is just trying to deflect attention away from his team getting owned last night.

There is no doubt. It was clearly a hit to the head which is an intent to injure. Hitting from the rear isn't really the issue here. One game seems very minimal and should be more! For a so called elite player, this is totally unacceptable. Perhaps the league should also consider a sanction on the comments of Brian Burke. His reaction to this incident is almost identical to his reaction to the Bertuzzi incident when he was with Vancouver. When the manager supports this type of behaviour, it sends a message to the other Anaheim players that that is what management wants from them.

One game. Had that been a Brian McGrattan or a Wade Belak (I know, I'm reaching with Belak, but you get my drift) who had slammed Holstrom's face into the glass they'd have been gone for the balance of the playoffs. So Burke is "outraged." Who cares?

His so called superstar status got him 1; a mucker would have got 5; which is the number Pronger should have got!!

Pronger should definitely be suspended and I think it should be for the rest of the playoffs, albeit that is going to be a short suspension. His was a dirty hit and he had his head up all the way and saw that Holmstrom was already being taken out by Niedemayer. This was a chance to inflict estra punishment and possibly hurt Holmstrom enough to put him out of the game.

Definitely! Although not premeditated, a blatent elbow like that can be compared to some of the worst given. 12 Games, easy!
Frank, 2007-05-16 17:58:04

He should be suspeneded for the rest of the playoffs. You never finish a check with your freakin elbow!!Just cause the ugly ducks are losing and are going to keep losing to an awesome team with stacked players doesn't mean 'baby' pronger can go around injuring players. The league has to look at this one seriously and make an example out of him, its clear him and 'bonehead' niedermayer where trying to take Holmstrom out.

What Pronger did was cowardly and probably cost the ducks the series.
