Are the Sens a dirty team?
Mon, May 14, 2007

Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said this week that Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson should have been suspended for a hit from behind on defenceman Henrik Tallinder in overtime of Game 2 of the NHL Eastern Conference final.

Alfredsson said he hadn't seen the replay but felt that "it didn't feel like a hit from behind."

Alfie's hit has Sabres steamed

No, they are not a dirty team! They have overall become a very strong team with a much better defence than I have seen in Sens history. If they were goons, would there not be more penalties? and subsequent game misconducts?

"A bunch of goons"??? Are you an idiot or something? Have you been watching any games?

The Senators are doing exactly what a championship team needs to do to win the Stanley cup. And thats to play hard, be smart on defense and have some lucky bounces along the way!

Spoken like a true Leaf's whiner fan....go play some golf like the Maple Losers and soon the Sabres. Game 3 showed who the goons were and even with Buffalo getting away with some cheap shots, the Sens dominated with good passing, capitilizing on great turnovers and shutting down the power plays. The only thing keeping the game from being a complete wipe on the Sabres is Miller. He's worth the rest of the team's salaries combined!

Um im just woundering what games you have been watching. They have pure skill. You dont see them using cheap shots or starting fights or taking trash. Maybe try watching the game a little bit closer tim.

They are a rough team but not dirty.

There shouldn't have even been an OT since the hit on Kelly was just as bad as Alfies and a penalty should have been called then.

Time for the Leafers to come out and trash the Sens out of jealousy.

Define "dirty." The Philedelphia Flyers of the '70s were the dirtiest team of all time, and they won two Stanley Cups. In the '80s it was the New York Islanders, and the Edmonton Oilers, (yes, Gretzky's Oilers were a comparatively dirty team! So were the Flames the year they won.) Both the Isles and the Oilers were also dynasties. It's one thing to go out and target specific players and intimidate opponents the way the Broadstreet Bullies used to, but to be a champion you need intensity, drive, and a willingness to go harder than the other guy. Hockey is fast, fluid, and inherently violent. I haven't seen a blatantly dirty team in at least 25 years. There are dirty players: head hunters, and cheap shot artists, but no truly dirty teams. As for the Sens; they don't call it "killer instinct" for nothing!

If the team had any more than 3 quality players, they would be a team to be proud of. However with the lack of talent other than the super line, they have no choice but to be goons. Murray has done a fine job of perfecting the goon style.

Awww.. sounds like a sour Leafs fan..

I admit Ottawa is teetering on the line but come on.. who hasn't played dirty once in a while? Besides, we're talking about a team that was rushed by - yes - Buffalo in the 2nd last game of the regular season. BRING IT ON!

...same thing as the Tucker hit along the boards 3 or 4 years ago. A hit from behind is a hit from behind and this guy cares nothing of injuring someone (yah I know it was Tucker) but it could have been anybody. Alfredsson is a great hockey player but definitely doesn't know where to draw the line when the pressure is on. Oh yah, did anybody else see the right hand Fisher threw punching the Sabre defenceman in the 3rd in Game 2? Why no call there either - retaliation?
Clint Foster, 2007-05-14 19:27:04

Wow Tim you got the grammer skills of a 1st grader ... Your post makes no sense ... Ottawa is a team of goons? C'mon fool, they got talent and you will see a lot of it in 2010 at the Olympics ... I take it your not a fan of OTT and I am not either, but at least I got a bit of pride in Canada and I think the Cup belongs in Canada so I am cheering for OTT ...

Anywho, back to the reason for this forum ... I dont think Alfie deserves to be suspended, it wasnt a dirty hit and Buffalo tied the game from a cross-check that wasnt called, if it was called the game never would have went to overtime, so that makes the calls even ... A cross-check for a hit from behind, even...
