Are the Sens a dirty team?
Mon, May 14, 2007

Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said this week that Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson should have been suspended for a hit from behind on defenceman Henrik Tallinder in overtime of Game 2 of the NHL Eastern Conference final.

Alfredsson said he hadn't seen the replay but felt that "it didn't feel like a hit from behind."

Alfie's hit has Sabres steamed

If everyone thinks that ottawa is a dirty team and that Alfie should be suspended for a questionable hit from behind then the buffalo team should have 2 - 3 players suspended because of questionable hits from behind. Let the referees call the game, they have been given the responsibility. If you carefully scrutinized every game played so far, there have been a lot of hits that should have been called and players suspended, but this is playoff hockey and there are some things that are let go. So to all of those who don't think Ottawa should be on the verge of a stanley cup berth, you are either not proud canadians or don't care that stanley hasn't been back in Canada in a while.

Hey all you Leaf fans, this is how the game is played now... fast skating, hard hitting players. Get over it.

It's truly an idiotic question to even ask. The Sens are one of the cleanist teams in hockey. Alfie's hit did seem to be from behind, but the guy also turned. It was by no means intent to injure. Lindy Ruff remindes me a lot of Pat Quinn. He cries like a child when he doesn't get his way. His team has been running Emery, hitting from behind and making quite a few dirty plays, but you don't see Ottawa complaining like a spoiled child.

Lindy is just trying to make excuses for the way his team has played this round. He might also be trying to deflect attention away from some of his horrible coaching mistakes this playoff.

I am a Toronto fan, but that does not cloud my judgement about the Senators. Alfredsson has made a couple of questionable hits in his playoff career, but he is a top notch skill player. I don't consider him a dirty player, just one of many who increase their physical play during the post season.

Its the only way Alfredsson knows how to hit - from behind. Just ask Darcy Tucker. No, Alfredsson isn't a goon. Just a coward.

All I can say is consider the source. Unless Lindy Ruff and the Buffalo Crybabies are winning, regardless of how, he always sees something wrong with either the officiating or the other team's "dirty" play. Any coach who dresses Adam Mair in the playoffs can hardly lob stones in a glass house.

Haha, wow, I'm sure this question is going to get lots of negativity from the haters, but I really don't see them as dirty. They hardly take penalties, have not openly ran any goalies (unlike some of their opponents) and don't seme to take a lot of cheapshots which they certainly have the size to do. T

Hey Tim - let me guess - you're from TO? The only thing that disappoints me about the Sens post-season is that Toronto isn't around for us us to beat.

C'mon - the Sens are goons? As if.

Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson has pretty much always been a dirty player. He definitely should have been suspended for the hit from behind on defenceman Henrik Tallinder in Game 2 of the East Conf final.

Alfredsson said he hadn't seen the replay but felt that "it didn't feel like a hit from behind." OF COURSE IT DIDN'T FEEL LIKE A CHEAP SHOT... IT COMES NATURALLY EH ALFIE!!!
Scott M, 2007-05-14 23:28:32

Hey Tim,

You're kidding, right? Do you know anything about hockey? A goon is a player who behaves like a bully. Ottawa doesn't have any of those players in the lineup right now. I think that you have the word "goon" confused with the word "playmaker". Substitute the word "playmaker" for "goon" in your comment and then it suddenly makes sense.

You had me there for a minute, buddy!
