Should politicians stay out of hockey?
Sat, May 5, 2007

This political power play involving Canadian hockey captain Shane Doan is downright sickening. The words embarrassing, ridiculous, moronic and laughable also come to mind.

Canadian members of parliament have proven they have absolutely nothing better to do than conjure up a two-year old incident that was never verified and turn it into a national scandal. Your tax dollars at work, people.

Doan mess disgusting

Is there nothing else of importance for the politicians to do up on the Hill, because I can think of 10 things right off the top of my head so much more important for them to focus on. And the Bloc, let's not forget that their former leader slurred a multitude of ethnic people on national TV as " les autres "......2nd class citizens if the Bloc were in power. I think the public need a penalty box for sure. Politicians must be accountable, $25,000 fine for each offence, $1,000 a day for every day it's in the news, pay or vacate your seat of office. I guess we'll have to hire 3 non-Canadians as referees.
Brian Ellick, 2007-05-04 06:56:30

If the words were said...so what. 1. the referee was French (French Canadian) 2. He's a man...and 3. I presume he has sex at least occasionally. Sounds like a compliment to me. If the words had been "impotent frog" I can see people being upset. As for our parliamentarians...you see, they recognize a compliment when they hear one. Every day the words "f..ng politicians" must be muttered hundreds if not thousands of times across the country. But do they get upset. Of course not...they know they've been screwing the public ever since Confederation and accept the phrase for the compliment it is. What we all need is a little thicker skin. Ask any of the referees who were doing NHL, Semi Pro, or Junior hockey 30 years ago about some of the things they'd been called. To take this silly little thing to a parliamentary committee is far beyond the absurd...in fact there is no word to accurately describe the stupidity of it, except maybe to say as a previous writer said...it's all about whoring for votes.

SHANE DOAN IS A PROUD CANADIAN ONLY TRYING TO REPRESENT THE WHOLE OF CANADA IN RUSSIA AT THE WORLD TOURNAMENT. AND THE FRENCH CANADAIAN BLOC PARTY HAS TO HELP SPLIT US FARTHER APART AS A NATION.

GET A LIFE (TO ALL POLITICIONS WHO CAN NOT RUN THIS COUNTRY, BUT REALLY WANTED TO BE A HOCKEY PLAYER WHEN YOU GROW UP.

Good frigg'n grief, grown men acting like little children. Has no one taught these people the little saying that goes "sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me"??
Roger Owen, 2007-05-04 01:48:38

The NHL should be embarrassed; the government of Canada should be embarrassed that this issue has been given any credence whatsoever. The NHL should seriously consider firing the NHL officials responsible for initiating this mess.

re: Doan compared to 'bank robber'??

What a joke!! These MP's have lost it. If Doan's a bank robber then what about the Liberals who still have not accounted for $150 million of my money as a result of Adscam???

Proud of Doan!!!

Boo to every politician of every stripe. They should be tried for treason for giving in to the BQ who are not even Canadians.
Dan Zdrodowski, 2007-05-04 01:10:48

Interesting double standard at play here.Someone makes a unjust comment against a French person, and the federal government along side the Quebec government is up in arms bringing people to government buildings to discuss the "issue". Yet, every day that goes by, English people in Quebec are discriminated against by the Quebec language police. The sad thing is this seems to be acceptable and it's not questioned any longer. Hypocracy? Double standard?

if a Quebec team (Montreal Canadiens) were playing in Ontario (Toronto Maple Leafs) and a Montreal player said "what do you expect from 4 Ontario referees... we would never have heard anything about it.
Glenn Curtis, 2007-05-03 23:42:13

Shane Doan is a proud Canadian representing his country in a time when so many other players choose to be elsewhere.

Atta boy Shane, thankyou!

As for those whining politicians.... put as much effort into gasoline price gouging!
