Should politicians stay out of hockey?
Sat, May 5, 2007

This political power play involving Canadian hockey captain Shane Doan is downright sickening. The words embarrassing, ridiculous, moronic and laughable also come to mind.

Canadian members of parliament have proven they have absolutely nothing better to do than conjure up a two-year old incident that was never verified and turn it into a national scandal. Your tax dollars at work, people.

Doan mess disgusting

Born in Manitoba, I have spoken French and English since birth. I have sat and watched the French and English debates for 50 years.

The position that the Bloc Quebecois has taken on the Doan issue makes me sick.

Playground sandbox users have a better grasp of what reality is.

Gilles Duceppe can take his toys and leave any time he wishes.

Having a French last name, I am embarrassed. I would change it if I could do so.
Will Fortier, 2007-05-04 10:21:09

The Bloc scored big time here. They love nothing more than to drive a bigger wedge between english Canada and Quebec. The whole line of questioning was in french (why not -only 83% of this country speaks english). Quebecers should be ashamed of their Bloc stooges (why must the rest of us pay their salaries-let the separatist traitors who vote for them pay it!). The Cons upset me the most in this whole disgusting affair, I expected better. Time for this lousy province to set sail so our idiot politicians can stop whoring themselves for their vote. A side note-when are the Van Doos going to Afghanistan?

I want my tax money back for Thursday May 03, 2007.

Is there a lawyer out there who can chase the the idiot polititians down and serve them?

A message to the whiners who launched this fiasco...

Canada, love it or leave it!

What idiots on parliament hill. The all committe parties trying for votes in Quebec siding with the Bloc are now back tracking. Too late. the damage has been done. What a bunch of jerks. I imagine the rest of the world is laughing at Canada. The only robbers I see are the acusers.
Bill McMullin, 2007-05-04 09:40:25

Why should we listen to the Bloc anyways??

Duceppe is the son of Hélène Rowley and well-known Québécois actor Jean Duceppe.

Spoiled??

Served with the Company of Young Canadians, described as the Canadian equivalent of the U.S. Peace Corps.

Wonder if his fellow Bloc- ers know?

Duceppe has said he developed an early distaste for Anglophones. Duceppe's English-speaking Grade 6 teacher slapped him for complaining when the French students had to stand in the aisles on a school bus, and he slapped her back. "If you're talking about social justice, that event marked me," he told the Ottawa Citizen years later.

Poor baby, hasn’t grown up yet!

For a three-year period, he was a member of the Marxist-Leninists Communist Workers’ Party, which espoused ideas of class oppression and revolution.

Wonder if his constituents know this ??

Duceppe became a union negotiator for the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN), a provincial union organization in Quebec. During the 1970s, the CSN was one of the more radical union organizations in the province, proposing a socialist agenda for Quebec workers. In 1972, the CSN, and other provincial public service unions, staged one of the largest general strikes in Quebec's history in an effort to force the provincial government to meet the demands of its public service members. Duceppe worked for the CSN from 1977 to 1990.

Good, just what we need someone to insight strikes and civil unrest

Duceppe apologizes for remarks about making Liberals 'disappear'

Is he a Teamster member too?

I am a Québec sovereignist. This doesn't keep me from appreciating Canada or from liking Canadians and, in particular, the Montréal Canadians. Especially, when they are defeating the Maples Leafs.

Should all the Leaf fans feel “slurred”?? Is this hockey fan profiling?

Hard to imagine that people actually elected this guy to anything. Maybe we need a voter test. sort of like a driver's test, aye, ro should I say...le aye or is that la

This is embarrassing. The tin-pot morons up on the Hill have wasted enough of their time and ours with this non-sense. Are politicians so incapable of dealing with the real issues facing this country that they have to stoop to their levels of competence and deal with trifles? Quit acting like a bunch of pre-schoolers and get back to real work.
Will, 2007-05-04 08:49:52

These are nothing but low-life politicians trying to sniff out votes in that anti-Canadian country called Quebec. Frenchmen don't fight in wars OR on the ice - my deceased father-in-law, who DID fight in the war, always said, "Never trust a Frenchman". How true those words are!

Team Canada should pull out of the tourney and head home immediately in support of Doan. These good for nothing politicians or crooks should be booted out of Parliament. We voted in politicians not jack-asses.
L. Walsh, 2007-05-04 08:07:48

Enough.. Canadian politicians seem to believe they can dictate when, what, how and where people think, do and say. We aren't paying you to be Big Brother. Get to work and stop screwing the pooch on the Doan issue. If any one should be ashamed it Duceppe and Dryden. If any politician wants to know why they aren't respected....
