Should politicians stay out of hockey?
Sat, May 5, 2007

This political power play involving Canadian hockey captain Shane Doan is downright sickening. The words embarrassing, ridiculous, moronic and laughable also come to mind.

Canadian members of parliament have proven they have absolutely nothing better to do than conjure up a two-year old incident that was never verified and turn it into a national scandal. Your tax dollars at work, people.

Doan mess disgusting

Politicians should stay out of our lives period.

The less we hear about them or they interfere with our lives, the better.

Food for thought. I was born Newfoundland and how many times have I heard "stupid Newf". I wonder how many times Daniel Cleary has endured Newfie jokes in the locker room, and how many times were the jokes intended to harm? We have a traitor to Canada up in arms over this. Gilles Duceppe and the Bloc are traitors and will not even call themselves a National Party. In the states they shoot traitors. In Canada we elect them. If Mr. Doan even made reference to all the refs being French in the game in Montreal and it affected the call of the game, where does this even register on the agenda of the government? My tax dollars are being spent on this joker to feed and house him while he spews stupidity? This is a national crisis??

How is it that statements like this can be allowed in the Canadian parliament without repercussions. This is about as public (and slanderous) as you can get on an unresolved court case.

And all about an issue that was investigated and dropped. $150G a year to discuss this in parliament??

I beleive that that Shane said what he is accused of saying. He should do like a man and admit it. it's because he refuses to back up what he said that it's going so far. A real man does not deny saying what he said. A simple apology would have rectified the situation but he chose to be a coward.

Asinine... completely ridiculous, if they really cared about what hockey Canada does; maybe they should have been more concerned with what Alan Eagleson was doing all those years.

Is it possible that Shane may have said fuddle duddle

As a Quebec resident it shames me that those fools are trying to make their bones on the back of Shane Doan, what those idiots are supposed to be doing is running the country not getting involved in matters that do not concern them. The Bloc is an embarassment, what are they trying to accomplish? What we need to do is vote these jerks out of office, Quebecers stand up and VOTE.

It wasn't bad enough that our government has wasted millions and billions of our hard earned dollars...we have to hear them talking about this garbage in parliment? Give me a break.
Todd Clement, 2007-05-07 22:47:57

Actually, the refs were likely onto something, but got it only half right when Doan may have said, a little too loudly for their comfort, that they were 'fudging' calls.

I think a good overall question is "how is 'French Canadian' a race?" Would Georges Laraque and Vincent Lecavalier identify themselves as the same race?
