Was signing Sundin a good move?
Tue, June 12, 2007

Mats Sundin will remain with the Toronto Maple Leafs for one more season.

The Leafs captain signed a one-year contract worth US$5.5 million on Tuesday, raising questions about Sundin's future with the organization.

Was this a prudent move by the Maple Leafs? Do they move their team leader at or before the trade deadline if the club is on the outside looking in concerning the Eastern playoff standings?

Have your say in our forum.

Sundin opts for one-year deal

mr. sundin has passed his peak , and i think that for his proposed salary , leafs could obtain at least two youngaer , faster and more medically reliable players ! a new captian could be chosen from the existing roster , to lead the new selections .

The Leafs should part Company with Mr. Sundin. I for one believe he is and has been overrated for some time now. At the very least he is overpaid. I as others are tired of hearing “we need to find players who can play with him” I thought it was easier to move one player (Sundin) then have a revolving door of players who can’t play with Mr. Sundin. He doesn’t win the face-offs like he used to and he is now injured.

Having said that, don’t you think it’s time the Leafs do what’s best for the Leaf organization instead of what’s best for Mr. Sundin.

Keep him at a cheaper price. He's a been a great captain and leader. Who else in the NHL has done what he has with NO HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! he has been the only real player on this team for the last 5 to 7 years with nobody to play with hime except for 3rd and 4th line players.

Why would the Leafs spend all that cash? That organization would fill the rink if they had donkeys on skates.

Comparing the playoff hockey with Leafs' capability shows how deep the problems are with this organization. John Jr. is just like his father - can't tell a good hockey player from a bad one. I can't see anything but disaster for this club unless they clean house from top to bottom. Doesn't anyone at the top know anything about the terrible situation they are in?

just move sundin and the leafs to the metro jr B league and move on...the whole leaf organizations sucks..........

Not for $6 mil a yr. Sign him for $3 per yr and you got a deal. they already got hosed on the McCabe and Kubina deals.
MIKE, 2007-05-11 11:37:24

In a word NO. It is time for the Leafs to look to the future. Trade Tucker, McCabe, Kubina, Gill, Antropov, Peca, O'Neill, Perreault, Raycroft, and Ponikarovsky, for whatever you can get for them, don't re-sign Sundin. Then go after Briere, Drury, Jokinen, Datsyuk, Gomez,Martin, Phillips, Emery, Volchenkov, etc...to bolster the team. Forget draft picks, the scouting staff hasn't made a good first round pick since Wendel. Best thing for the team...fire JFJ and bring in Doug MacClean

Yawn...Does it ever occur to Toronto journalists that more teams than the Maple Laffs exist.

Sign Sundin or not. The Laffs' woes run so deep it won't make a difference.

only if he will take 3 years @ 10 million ... No more ... otherwise go after a young stud
