Was signing Sundin a good move? Tue, June 12, 2007
Mats Sundin will remain with the Toronto Maple Leafs for one more season.
The Leafs captain signed a one-year contract worth US$5.5 million on Tuesday, raising questions about Sundin's future with the organization.
Was this a prudent move by the Maple Leafs? Do they move their team leader at or before the trade deadline if the club is on the outside looking in concerning the Eastern playoff standings?
Canada wins Gold, Ducks tie the final and Sens looking to take a 3-0 lead and the lead article is a "rumor" about Mats??

Absoultly NOT!!! No Way..does make economic sense at this point in his career. We could put that money to much better use!!!

He'd make a great "outfielder" for the Jays. Another Toronto disaster!!

Get rid of him while they can still get something for him .. The Leafs have not won with him so what are they losing ??

Who is Sundin? What is a Sundin? time to get some hockey palyers.

The Leafs missed the playoffs by 1 lousy point. Why is everyone so down on Sundin? A lot of things contribute to missing playoffs such a s injuries and so so goal tending. Mike Peca out most of the yr was a huge blow. I feel some fine tuning here and there will make a difference.

He is a good player but is he a winner? Can he lead his team to victory when it counts? Well, there is plenty of years of evidence that says he can't. He has been given a fair amount of time to produce a Stanley Cup but has only padded his numbers. I think he is a good player but I think his time has come and gone. Maybe he can help another team but as far as helping the leafs - a trade would free up some cash to get a couple of good young players and add depth to a lineup that needs allot of help.
I would also try to find a good, qualified GM. If these things don't happen I think Leaf fans should send a message and teach a lesson to team management. Stop going to the games and buying the merchandise until they put a legitimate winner on the ice. I have waited 38 years for a cup - my patience is wearing thin. I swear that I could do a better job. How could I do worse? You have all season to play as a team to make the playoffs and you wait until the very end! Please give me a break!

See ya Mats!!! Write if ya get work....

How about we just get him a damn winger that can hit the freaking net... in 12 years he's only had two wingers who could put the puck in the ocean, both of which were injury prone... Columbus is going no where, trade for Rick Nash -- or sign Ryan Smyth... and please no more over priced defensemen

I like Sundin however I do think the leafs need to clean house as much as possible.
I feel a bit bad for everyone saying it's time for Mats to go but he's incredibly rich and I guarantee that there are a half dozen (warmer) american cities with teams that would hire him.
