Was signing Sundin a good move?
Tue, June 12, 2007

Mats Sundin will remain with the Toronto Maple Leafs for one more season.

The Leafs captain signed a one-year contract worth US$5.5 million on Tuesday, raising questions about Sundin's future with the organization.

Was this a prudent move by the Maple Leafs? Do they move their team leader at or before the trade deadline if the club is on the outside looking in concerning the Eastern playoff standings?

Have your say in our forum.

Sundin opts for one-year deal

I always get a kick out of the fans in this city. Mats is great!, what they need to find is a good quality right winger. Dump some of the dead wood like Antropov, how many years have been wasted on that guy! The injuries hit them hard this year. Balance out your attack, the questions are not about Sundin, but the players around the man. He has given his soul each and every shift, but PLEASE! surround the guy with quality! and maybe then we can contend for a Cup.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it..as the saying goes.

When it is as badly broken as this team has been for may years, please fix it!

It the entire team that needs to be evaluated and selectively overhauled!

Fire GM Ferguson NOW. He has done nothing good to the club. He didn´t give Sundin good enough wingers this year. I say: Welcome home to Sweden, Mats, if they don´t treat you well in Toronto (from the top that is).

Who cares! Leafs are golfing, so let's talk about the Senators and quit wasting Canoe webspace on the Leafs.

NO ... enough said! Leaf fans need to realize the expected formula. Full house = no need to win a cup!

I like Matts but there has to come a realization in every athletes career that the end is near. He has to be frustrated by being with the Leafs. The funny thing is he can still contribute from time to time when he feels like it.

They should trade him or keep him around for around $2-$3M/year and take the other money and get him some support. The real joke hear is Ferguson.. Total screw up.. McCabe, Kubina etc.

Yes they should trade him now and they will probably get little to nothing in return in the deal. Then in the 2009 season sell the farm for his come back campaign, like the Leafs always seem to do…

I really would hate to see Sundin leave but I believe that the time is here.

A slowdown in point production, increase in injury time and huge salary make Sundin expendable. Leafs need to start rebuilding and why have Sundin suffer as they do. His $'s can be put to use on signing some good young players.(That's if they can pick some winners in the draft which is very questionable) Hopefully we don't see patchwork which hasn't worked for 40 years.

Sundin is a true blue Leaf, but his time has come.

Personally the guy is a loser get rid of him once and forall

Its an easy answer... Hire a REAL General Manager and let HIM decide.. Success starts from the top. Fergie must go
