Is it time to forgive Bertuzzi?
Wed, April 18, 2007

Todd Bertuzzi is used to being booed in Calgary.

The former Vancouver Canucks forward has been absent from the Saddledome for more than a year but Flames fans haven't forgotten their favourite villain.

Bertuzzi, who is over his recent concussion and suited up last night for his first playoff game since 2003, also remembers what it's like to play in the Saddledome.

After the 3-2 Flames victory, the Detroit Red Wings winger admitted he wasn't surprised to be heckled every time he touched the puck.

I can already see the debate coming about whether his incident was different from other cheap shots in hockey. And the answer? Yes. Why? One word “premeditated”. Bertuzzi followed through on what he said he was going to do days in advance. That’s why he shouldn’t be playing. I hope he is booed wherever he plays.

Bertuzzi should have been banned for life. It doesn't matter what happened before, that's a separate issue that should likely have been dealt with also. I agree with there being a big difference between a hockey hit and common assault, Bertuzzi's attack on Moore was the latter.

He should not have attacked someone with such a weight disadvantage. For this Bertuzzi deserved a stiff suspension, which he more than received. Don't hear anyone mentioning Tony Granato's name for leaving Moore out on the ice, late in a game, knowing there was still bad blood. Does he not deserve some of the blame for putting his player in a situation were he was likely to have to fight a heavyweight of Bertuzzi's calibre? Does the coach not have a responsibility to protect his players?

I agree that Bertuzzi should have been removed from hockey altogether. When will he strike again? He says never but I don't believe it!!

Bertuzzi should have been banned from Hockey a couple of years ago! He should have never been allowed to play for the Canadian Olympic team. There is a BIG difference between violent Assault and Hockey fighting!

Mr. Bertuzzi should not be playing in the NHL. Period.

I have never thought Bertuzzi deserved all the flak which was the result of a series of cause and effect, starting with no official called Moore's hit that gave Nazzie a concussion.

Give the guy a break. Noone will ever know how much the players piling on top of Bert added to the stresses that resulted in a fracture.

BERT'S NOT GUILTY. NOTHING TO FORGIVE
