Should the Flames fire Playfair?
Tue, April 17, 2007

After two listless games against the Detroit Red Wings in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, there are calls in Calgary for Jim Playfair to be relieved of his head coaching duties with the Flames.

Many in Calgary are disgusted by the club's showing and have given up hope of any chance of a comeback after two road losses.

So, should the Flames fire Playfair, even if they are in the middle of a playoff series?

Or should the club take a wait and see approach in their best-of-seven series against the Wings?

Give us your thoughts on whether Playfair should stay for now or be dismissed post haste.

There are quite a few teams better than the Calgary Flames.

Their coach is the least of their problems.

Depend on Kiprusoff too much.

Jim Playfair should have been fired long time ago. The players he had should have been good enoungh to win the Stanley Cup

Who cares about Jim Playfair and Flames? The Toronto Maple Leafs are all that matters, and they are not in the playoffs, so the playoffs are not important any more. Besides, if the Flames fire him, I'm sure the Leafs would gladly have him as an assistant coach!

GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You morons must be completely oblivious to reality. Iginla is the Calgary Flames and one of the best players in the NHL. He has arguably the best defencemen in the league on him everytime he touches the puck. He hits, fights, and leads this team at every turn and always has. Ignorant people like you are gonna lead to the greatest Flame of all time being run out of town. Ask anyone that has a brain (including the entire team) and they weill tell you Jarome is and always has been the man. As for Tanguay he only put up eighty points in the regular season and two in three playoff games. I'd like to see a player in the NHL's current economic system that gets 2 million a year and puts up back to back seasons. Where have Langkow and Huselius been if you want to talk about not showing up and as for Stephane Yelle if you actually knew anything about hockey you'd know he has been having a slower year than usual and has only recently stepped up his defensive acumen to previous seasons levels. You people wouldn't know good hockey if it slapped you in the face. Get off the bandwagon and stay off the sad sack woe is me Oilers could use your on again off again Oilers.

I watched the last few Flames games, they all skated around like the Monty Python clip, people with no sense of direction. They look totaly unorganized, Iginla is overrated, and the defense doesn,t make any sense at some of the moves they do. Sutter should be back on the bench.

Even though we won last nights game we need to look at the season and the first two games of the playoff's to make an informed decision. I feel the team has been unprepared in many games this season (particularly on the road) and as a result has had terrible starts. I also question the lack of discipline for players that don't stick to the system and/or take dumb penalties. Most coaches aren't afraid to sit a player to send a message. No matter how this years playoff's turn out I believe Playfair has lost many of the players respect (the way Ferrence was treated when he received news of his trade is a good example) and does not exude the kind of confidence behind the bench that is needed at this level. I am sure many player changes will be made over the off season and hopefully many of our younger players in the minors will get a shot, but in my opinion, they need to be lead by a new coach. Playfair had his chance and he dropped the ball.

Calgary Flames will never win another cup until they start paying players that can actually play hockey in the first place. Need more than one scorer.....

You say should the coach be fired.....I don't think so ..Where were the players the first two games, its not always the Coach. Kipper can't always be the hero!

No, Flames should not fire the coach. It is not his fault. The players have to put in an effort and play together as a team not individual because the Stanley Cup has to be won on group effort. It is not Playfair's fault.

I have not liked Mr. Playfair since he began. I think he should get the boot and Daryl Sutter should take over for the rest of the season. Thanks
