Are you in favour of playoff shootouts?
Fri, April 13, 2007

VANCOUVER -- With every click on the clock as the Dallas Stars series with the Vancouver Canucks opened on the West Coast here at 7 p.m. Wednesday, newspaper deadlines went by across the country, until it ended at 12:32 a.m. here - 5:02 a.m. in Newfoundland - long past closing time in every province east of Alberta - five hours and 32 minutes after it started.

PLAYOFF SHOOTOUT?

"No way," said Canucks captain Markus Naslund. "This is the way it has to be settled.""I'm completely and utterly exhausted. I've never been so tired in my whole life. It was physically cruel."

I don't mind the shootout in regular season play or else I've got used to it. I'm not sure which. In playoff hockey the shootout is just wrong. The game isn't really a game when the shootout takes over. Many facets of the game are removed. Speed, skating, hustle, chance, skill, luck, endurance, team work & play are all reduced/eliminated or changed. It stops being the game we love and becomes some lesser form of entertainment. No thankyou! You can make an arguement for the time factor all you want. Suck it up Princess! Bring a pillow if you must but don't change the game.

All we're doing is watering down the final rounds of the playoffs. Go to 4 on 4 sudden death in overtime to get it over faster, and rest players.

I love to see playoff hockey settled in sundden death overtime until somebody scores no matter how long it takes. Shootouts works in soccer because in those games the chance to score is very much slim compare to hockey plus also the fact that it takes away another dimension of the game away which is fitness and endurance. Watching a shootout in the playoffs is like letting a game decided by a coin flip. Let the stronger team prevail in the playoffs !!!!

Shootouts are not the way the game is supposed to be. Play until the game is won. If it takes two over time periods so be it. This is Canadian hockey, not the wimpy Euopian hockey. Bettman give your head a shake, and get the hell out of hockey, which you nothing about.

The NHL playoffs are different than other sports'. They are a war of attrition, a proven method of determining which team is truly the strongest and wants to win the most. Playoff shootouts would only allow the slacker teams to eke out wins they don't deserve. Shootouts work in soccer you say? Well great, go watch those sissies play, and let true hockey fans watch the playoffs the way they were meant to be played. Playoff shootouts would guarantee me to stop watching.

The Edmonton Oilers will rise again next year....beware...

After 2 complete periods of overtime the shootout should be implemented, less chance for player injury and player burnout, fans too.........

I hate the trap. It's the opposite of everything hockey should be, and we should be trying to get rid of it. By instituting shoot outs in the playoffs you'll be encouraging marginal teams to use it even more than they already do. The thinking is to make the gams more exciting by forcing a conclusion, but the opposite will happen. Instead of trying to win before the deadline teams will just make sure they don't lose. Bad idea.

Maybe look at 4 on 4 after first OT period ends in tie... remember one of these teams may have to go 4 rounds.

Shootouts are for baseball fans. Slow, boring, and annoying. Yes, I said slow and boring! Of all the bad rule changes instituted over the last few years, the shootout is the worst. Please, keep it out of the playoffs!

All I have to say is if the NHL ever goes to playoff shootouts they will permanently lose a lot of fans. Maybe they will gain new ones, but they would have to be prepared for a huge fallout. I would never watch again.
