Should Don Imus have been fired?
Thu, April 12, 2007

NEW YORK (AP) - CBS fired Don Imus from his radio show Thursday, the final blow for the broadcaster who called the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos."

MSNBC had already pulled the plug on his talk show's television simulcast amid the uproar over his racial slur. Imus has apologized repeatedly for his comments.

He also has said that those who called for his firing without knowing him, his philanthropic work or what his show was about would be making an "ill-informed" choice.

Where were Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson when Imus was playing the Amos & Andy audio clips ? Money grubbing clowns is all they are. Apologizing in front of those 2 is like having Chris Darden & Marcia Clark apologize to O.J. Simpson.

No, Mr. Imus should NOT be fired. He made a bad error in judgement, he's a shock jock, if you don't want to listen to him then change the chanel to something else.

He's done a lot of good things over the years and I think it's terrible that people like rev. Sharpton are crucifying him over some bad judgement.

Listen to the rap music stars who use those words over and over, they should not be permitted to carry on either. Freedom of speech should work all around.

I have 2 black nephews who wouldn't call another black person a ho.

Don apologized and that should be the end of it.

This has turned into a witch hunt and Imus should not have been fired by MSNBC.

I won't watch their chanel any more.

No one would care if he called them "a bunch of white blonde bimbos" or something to that effect. Still waiting for America to get over this overt-PCism that borders on lunacy. It's just money in the bank for Sharpton and Rev. Jackson..

Nope. It was a joke. Commedians use the same manner of tone and subject matter in their acts and no one cares. Usually they say far, far "worse" things, as well. Grow up, get over, and stop being a bunch of whiney babies.

Imus should be fired - there is no question about it. That he has been allowed to continue to spew his virtiolic, ignorant commentary for as long as he has is a shame. Now what irks me to no end is the clear double standard in this country when dealing with racism. The debacle of the Hot 97 radio DJs and their 'tsunami song' made, in comparison to the Imus controversy, barely a ripple amongst the media. Miss Jones, the ringleader, currently maintains her post as the morning DJ for that station while scapegoats were let go to appease the 'over-excited' Asian community. For Imus we have, rightfully, national coverage on prime time television shows and recurring commentary by reporters of large papers, but where was this outrage when thousands of Asian victims were mocked, parodied and vilified by Miss Jones on her radio show?
