Are the playoffs less fun without the Leafs?
Wed, April 11, 2007

It can't be good for hockey when the Leafs miss the playoffs. It can't be good for hockey when Edmonton is out and Montreal is out. These cities are the lifeblood of the game.

So, now we watch, not certain where to turn. I'm vaguely interested in Vancouver-Dallas because this is Roberto Luongo's playoff debut. Same goes for Calgary-Detroit, mostly to see if the annual Red Wings collapse is upon us.

A playoffs without Toronto won't seem very much like playoffs at all.

Yes I miss the leafs like a hole in the head. Now maybe we can hear Don talk about another Canadian team and not make excuses for Matts who can enjoy the summer.

I'm so glad the leafs aren't in the playoffs. At least when the leafs aren't in the playoffs the media has to focus it's attention on other teams. And plus watching the leafs play is about as entertaining as watching paint dry. Also i'd rather not listen to Bob and Harry scream like little girls when their "precious" leafs get a goal, quite honestly it makes me sick to my stomach.

I was very upset when I learned that the CBC had spent $500 million for the rights to Saturday night hockey for this very reason... for a national network, they certainly spend an inordinate amount of time following the Leafs. TSN (the Toronto Sports Network) isn't much better.

And here is Canoe starting their coverage of the playoffs with a story about the Leafs, a team out of the running. Why not a story about Montreal, or Edmonton?

Howzabout Phoenix?

I can't wait for game seven of the cup final when someone asks, "Well it looks like Vancouver is one period away from the cup, Don... what do you think this means to the Leafs?"

Get over yourselves.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, I think that is quite clear. I do feel sorry for the players, the only feelings I have for the fans is frustration and for the owners discuss. It is amazing that no matter the crap talent that is put on the ice in the fall they are always going to win. Lets be honest the ownership is getting what they want, a return on their investment. Their attitude is screw the fans, the corporation will buy the tickets and we will make our money. Lets also make it clear the NHL is made up of 30 teams with the Leafs being one, and to comment on the poll below Toronto is not a sport town it is a Leaf town.

Boo Hoo!! No Leafs in the playoffs means "No Stanley Cup Parade" again this Spring. Maybe they shouldn't have honoured the 1967 team. Bad Karma Man, Bad Karma. A "Big Thanks" to Wade D & Ted Nolan for knocking those %$&^*@# Leafs out of the picture. When is tee-off time for Mats & Co.? A play-off without Toronto is a good playoff without Toronto!!
DarthGlen, 2007-04-11 19:01:57

ah, Toronto has an NHL team?? I thought they were just a farm team , Bahahaha, leafs suck.
Ray, 2007-04-11 18:57:56

there is more to hockey than TORONTO - Quit crying - Vancouver is the NEW TORONTO and has been for some time -
Ken D, 2007-04-11 18:50:30

I disagree with Mark S. who says that the only fans who care about the Leafs are Torontonians. If you've ever been to a Leafs/Canucks game in Vancouver all you have to do is look around the stands to see just as many, if not more Leafs jerseys than Canucks jerseys. The roar when the Leafs score is deafening and I have seen the same at games in Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa. There are Leafs fans everywhere and they're not shy...so don't tell me that all Leafs fans are Torontonians...just look around you local rink when the Leafs are in town!

I'll miss the leafs a whole lot more than the Habs. Then again how anyone can cheer for anything out of Quebec has always been beyond me.

At Least we sank their chances of making the playoffs and finished ahead of them in the standings. Loved it. HA HA HA HA
