Are the playoffs less fun without the Leafs?
Wed, April 11, 2007

It can't be good for hockey when the Leafs miss the playoffs. It can't be good for hockey when Edmonton is out and Montreal is out. These cities are the lifeblood of the game.

So, now we watch, not certain where to turn. I'm vaguely interested in Vancouver-Dallas because this is Roberto Luongo's playoff debut. Same goes for Calgary-Detroit, mostly to see if the annual Red Wings collapse is upon us.

A playoffs without Toronto won't seem very much like playoffs at all.

I miss the Leafs like I miss getting punched in the head.

Forget the Leafs, havn't won nothin' since '67. At least us Hab fans have had 6 or 7 cups since the Leafs last won.

Good riddance!! hate 'em! love that they break everyones heart every year! It never ceases to amaze me how a third string player becomes a susper star when he is traded to Toronto. Now we don't have to listen to Ron and Don and all the guys at TSN (Toronto sportsnetwork) tell us how if the leafs just do this or that they will be successful only to see them bow out of the first round...

the play offs are deffinetly better with out the loafs as always fail through out their playoff race if they actualy could get to the cup and win we would finnaly see it happen in full colour! the leafs have way to much air time throughout the regular season and to watch them play prime time and lose on a consistent basis is abusured for the people who really want watch good sporting events!

playoffs......oh playoffs are not the same without the leafs, they will win the cup before ottawa ever will, they have no heart and no leadership go pens!!!!

Just face it peeps -- Toronto is the centre of the universe.

What's that noise? Yes, it's another talented Ottawa team choking in the playoffs.
Tie Domi, 2007-04-11 21:02:16

Yes, I'm a Leafs fan but I'm glad they didn't make the playoffs. My reason.. there are people in the Leaf organization that need to go.. from the top, to the team itself. The past two seasons prove this and some of the people that need to get the boot are Ferguson for starters. Sundin because in the 13 years he's been with the Leafs (however many years he's been captain) he's never been able to lead the team to anything spectacular. McCabe.. what a waste of a contract he was.. he got his money, and what has he done since?! Raycroft.. yes, he won a lot of games but that's only because he played, what, 95% of the games the Leafs played this year... he has to go for a quality, consistent, and effective goalie. Kubina.. need I say more! Andripov.. yeah, this was probably his best season so far with the Leafs, but he's not the player that he was expected to be and, more often than not, he looks and plays like he doesn't give a crap.

No, the Leafs didn't deserve to be in the playoffs and, until the brass and coaching staff are improved and get the gonads to do what needs to be done, they won't make the playoffs.

As far as comments from the loud mouthed Sens fans go on here.. exactly how far have the Sens got in the playoffs anyway? Sure, they have a better record.. they are in the playoffs but history has shown they don't have the depth or character to get any further than, what, the second round. I'd be a Sens fan, after being a Leaf fan if not for one reason, that red-headed woodpecker little .... Alfredsson. Once he's gone, and the Leafs aren't in the playoffs again, I'm all for the Sens but as long as he's captain or on the team, so for now, GO PENS GO!

It is nice to have canadian teams in the playoffs but the Leafs, as you make them sound, aren't the only be all end all Canadian team in Canada. Your comment about it not being much of a playoff witout them is almost insulting to Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa.
Steve, 2007-04-11 20:44:39

The fact that Toronto did not make the playoffs should not be the headline news. I thought for a moment that Bob Cole wrote the article but I see that Steve Simmons also has forgot that he is writing for a national news service just as Bob Cole forgets that it is Hockey Night in Canada not Hockey Night in Toronto. The fact that we will get balanced coverage of the Playoffs with TO gone is great.

In any event, Toronto would have been out in the first round anyway so Mr. Simmons' article is somewhat pointless.

Gotta love those shoot outs!

A more appropriate comment would be "A playoffs without Montreal won't seem very much like playoffs at all." As usual this site like the CBC is so pro Toronto its sickening! Toronto has done nothing in the last 40 years to deserve the amount of coverage they get and a playoffs without Toronto is a good thing because they would just choke and ruin the dreams of their diehard fans again.
