Are the playoffs less fun without the Leafs?
Wed, April 11, 2007

It can't be good for hockey when the Leafs miss the playoffs. It can't be good for hockey when Edmonton is out and Montreal is out. These cities are the lifeblood of the game.

So, now we watch, not certain where to turn. I'm vaguely interested in Vancouver-Dallas because this is Roberto Luongo's playoff debut. Same goes for Calgary-Detroit, mostly to see if the annual Red Wings collapse is upon us.

A playoffs without Toronto won't seem very much like playoffs at all.

I would have to say that I really miss the Leafs in the playoffs - like I miss visiting the dentist for a root canal. Toronto and the Leafs will have exactly what they deserve at the end of the playoffs this year - the chance to watch their 39th consecutive Stanley Cup parade, broadcast live from some other city! Golf, Leafs, Golf!!

If you like seeing good hockey in the playoffs then you'll be happy the Leafs aren't there.

Their NHL-priced, junior level defense is not worth watching.

If some of the other Canadian teams got the same overwhelming media coverage that the Leafs get, we could develop bigger fan bases for all teams across this country.

Now let's enjoy the good Canadian teams that remain.

As long as the ACC seats are full, the Maple Leaf organization will be happy to count their $ and be content with another dismal season.

Stanley Cup teams are not rocket science. It is possible for Toronto fans to witness a cup parade but only if they start making some noise about the futility of the management. That's not to knock all the guys on the team. Add a few more top line players and who knows?

I picked Detroit to win the cup this year and the leafs to be golfing come the end of the regular season. It doesn't have to be this way. I hope I see a winning team before I die. Will it be another 40 years before it happens?

Miss the Leafs in the playoffs? NOT.

I just want to see a canadian team win the cup rather than the americans who only vaguely know what hockey is! Yes, watching the leafs go somewhere in the playoffs would be amazing, but alas, they are the leafs and can't even make it through 3 peroids, so no big loss.

Go Calgary Go!

Miss the Leafs in the playoffs??? HA!!! Puhleeeeeease... as one poster said earlier, you are insulting Van, Ott, and Cal. Who cares, besides CBC, Don Cherry, and the crew at TSN??? The playoffs without the Leafs is like filtering the crap out of the playoff pool.
FastRonnie, 2007-04-11 22:32:25

Your question of the Day should be " Will the playoffs be the same without Montreal?' Or Edmondton for that matter. Leafs? yes its sad to see a Canadian team not make it but I have to agree with many of the comments in here; I am glad I can watch the playoffs without the CBC or TSN constant tirades and endless commentary on the Leafs. I am so tired of listening to CBC" Hockey Night in Toronto and TSN's detail by detail by detail breakdown on Toronto games. Whatever happen to ojective broadcasting?I am a Habs fan who has thrown my support behind the Leafs on more than one occassion. But this year, hockey commentators have turned me way off the Leafs. I could not believe the headline across CTV news "Toronto out of the playoffs" , hey they just barely made it to begin with!

I'll miss the blathering Toronto media from this year's Stanley Cup playoffs like I will the plague. I have a new appreciation for the Islanders, but watch out for those Sabres!

Leafs not on the playoffs is like not having to go for a root canal or a colonoscopy..

Yeah, go back to Sweden Matts and eat your chunky soup...

I miss the Leafs in the playoffs like having holes drilled into my head.
