Would you like to see a new Summit Series? Wed, March 28, 2007
OTTAWA (CP) - Legendary Russian goaltender Vladislav Tretiak is spearheading a proposal to stage a repeat of hockey's 1972 Summit Series between Canada and Russia.
Tretiak says he has the support of both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Stephen Harper for the series to take place in August.
Hockey Canada also likes the idea but Tretiak says a dispute between the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and the National Hockey League over player contracts needs to be resolved before negotiations can proceed further.
The 35th anniversary series would follow the format of the original thriller, going eight games, with four in Canada and four in Russia.

I would love to see such a series, no matter which team wins it. I can remember the thrills and chills of the 72 series. Let's do it again!

Are you kidding?
The patriotism shown by Canadians during that series has only been surpassed when we have been at war.
Thank you Mr. Tretiak
We should get Prime Minister Harper to drop the first puck at the first game on Canadian soil and President Putin to do the same in Russia.

I would absolutely love to see a Canada Russia summit series! However, I hope the Russians can live with loosing most of the games. Russia has not been a factor in recent international play.

yes i would like to see a repeat of that exhilerating series . it created a togetherness of canadians that showed how much we love our game . i would however like to see a bit of a relaxing of the new penalty rules , that see penaltys called for sometimes just barely touching an opponent with your free hand or stick . " give a bit of leeway refs " , and the games will be more exciting .just my opinion !

if we lost, it would be absolutely devastating.
