Are you glad HNIC is staying on the CBC?
Mon, March 26, 2007

The CBC will announce later today that its longest-standing tradition — Hockey Night in Canada — is staying on the network for the foreseeable future.

The Sun has learned a news conference involving the CBC and the NHL has been called for noon today in Toronto to make the official announcement.

There had been widespread speculation for several months that CTV Globemedia would make a major push to take Hockey Night away from the CBC, which has carried the Saturday night series for more than 50 years. No program has a longer history on the public broadcaster's airwaves.

CBC to keep NHL contract

I hope the NHL ensures that it will be Hockey Night in Canada and not Hockey Night in The Leaf Nation as it has been for the last decade.

I think it is fantastic that HNIC is staying on CBC. Its about the only thing worth watching on the channel anyways. I think that they should cancel Don Cherry and coach's corner and put put something more substantial in the timeframe. I personnally have heard enough of Mr. Cherry's insights into what makes a good hockey player. lets let Ron concentrate on Hockey and give Don some well deserved retirement vacation.

Its time for a change during the Second Intermission on HNIC......

Cherry and HNIC rocks! Hockey does need fighting and Cherry is a great promoter of the game and Canada!

HNIC is the greatest coverage, but I'm tired of seeing my tax dollars going to the CBC. They make money on HNIC, add it to the $3.5 billion in tax money to subsidize crap programs that no one watches.

Let CTV-TSN have the contract - They can hire all good HNIC staff and maintain the high quality... paid for by advertisers, not me!

It's not all about tradition, CBC has done a spectacular job with HNIC, although i agree it should not be Toronto for all the games on Saturday nights, give viewers more choices.

I'm OK with that. Tradition...traditions. Let's keep at least some of them alive. I would miss the opening song theme on Sat night that I've been hearing for a lot of years. KInd of comforting in an ever changing and chaotic world.

It does not matter whereHNIC ends up, but Don Cherry should be traded to WWF or some other mindless organization

Don't monkey with tradition. CBC puts on the best hockey show and I'm glad they can continue to do so.

Wahoo.are we lucky???

When can we see the last of CBC's answer to Ronald McDonald...alias Don the Pits Cherry???

Then of course it would be nice to see teams other than Toronto in the "Eastern Zone"...I mean, if Toronto could ever land a winning team, who knows, they could be entertaining?

It's time to moderate the Toronto Saturday night monopoly and give viewers options to Ottawa and Montreal games...

They have the technlogy, why not apply it and see who gets top ratings???

GET RID OF CHERRY.KEEP THE REST

HOCKEY DOES NOT NEED FIGHTING

CHERRY IS THE WORST EXAMPLE

POSSIBLE OF HOW TO PROMOTE HOCKEY
