Rogers Communications indicating the Blue Jays side of their operation needs to control costs could mean; a) The Jays could be going up for sale, and/or, b) Bad news for the competitiveness of the baseball club.
Forget about cost controls. Rogers is a massive company that has turned the team into more of a brand marketing machine than a true contender. Where's the payoff on the field? If you want to compete, you have to spend. And now it looks like penny-pinching and bean counting will take priority over wins and losses.
If this is the case, Rogers wouldn't be missed as an owner. Cost cutting is the last thing the franchise needs. In ownership, the team needs a sugar daddy: A rich owner who wants the team as its toy and is willing to inject cash into the franchise. Any wealthy Middle East Oil Tycoon's out there looking for a baseball team?
The Maple Leafs couldn't get Brayden Schenn to play with his brother Luke. They couldn't reel in the Sedin twins either. If the Leafs want brothers, why not a couple of Kaberles? With Tomas Kaberle's brother Frantisek being released by the Carolina Hurricanes, a Kaberle-combo could happen. And who cares if he is defenceman. A whole team of defencemen might work without a top-6 forward.

Sidney Crosby gets to bring the Stanley Cup home to Cole Harbour for his 22nd birthday -- something tells me it will be a little tamer than the Stanley Cup party that metal-band Pantera threw after the Dallas Stars 1999 victory.
