Things are getting hot in Houston

A couple of ultra-cool hot streaks are grabbing hold of the world of sports and, thankfully, giving beleaguered Toronto sports fans a distraction during this cold, cruel winter of disappointment.

The stings of the 2007-08 Leafs --and now the slumping Raptors -- run deep with the faithful and all Toronto fans are seeking relief.

Cue the blissfully distracting drama, compliments of a man named Tiger and Houston's NBA team.

It is almost old hat, watching Tiger win PGA tournaments. Don't get me wrong, winning five straight is very impressive, but given his track record, not surprising.

The Houston Rockets, however, are as surprising as all get out.

That I can get behind.

Their big man, Yao Ming, is out due to stress fractures in his left foot that required surgery. It is up to Tracy McGrady to lead the team, and the former Raptor has done just that as the club's streak grows by the day. No "I" in team for T-Mac.

Vince, are you listening?

Houston's 22-game win streak is amazing -- and a new team record. This club isn't just on a roll, it is giving NBA fans notice that it is a force to be reckoned with -- having won 26 of its last 27 and 31 of its last 34 games, including 10 straight on its home court.

This is the stuff that makes sports fun when your team is out.

Usually, the only time the Houston Rockets get my attention is when they play the Raptors -- but a 22 game win streak gets my attention, my respect and my remote control.

The moral of this story: Streakers in sports are lame, streaks in sports are super cool. If your sporting heart is frozen solid then steal some heat from Tiger or Tracy's team.
