SVOBODA STORY

The mixup with Petr Svoboda, the agent for Pavel Kubina, reminded me of another mixup with Svoboda years earlier. Cliff Fletcher's Calgary Flames had arranged Svoboda's Czech defection in 1984. The plan was for the Flames to pick him. Only Montreal found out and chose him before Calgary had a chance.

SMELL TEST?

Something about this doesn't seem right. Veteran Brent Barry was part of the trade that sent Kurt Thomas to San Antonio reecntly. That was fine. What doesn't seem fine is that Seattle released Barry after the deal was made, and Barry has since re-signed with the NBA champion Spurs. Even more curious: Seattle's GM is a former Spur.

LIARS POKER

According to published reports, Barry Bonds lied no more than 19 times while testifying before a grand jury at the BALCO hearings. That has still to be proven. Now comes word the FBI is going after Roger Clemens. Amazing that baseball has come to this: Its biggest names may both end up in jail.

Do you think Coyotes players should be punished for their actions after the team’s Game 5 loss to the Kings?
