BETTING ON TOCCHET
If Rick Tocchet (right) truly wants to return to coaching, the place for him is not with an NHL club. The place is starting all over again. Tocchet needs to repair his reputation. If he does that and succeeds, he likely will be welcomed back. Otherwise, don't bet on his return any time soon.
SAM AND THE DON
Sam Pollock came across Don Matthews when he was associated with the Argos. Matthews, an avid stock market player, gave Pollock, a market junkie himself, a tip on a stock that took off. Said Pollock to friend Paul Beeston: "If he wins the Grey Cup this year, Matthews is the greatest hire of all-time."
DOUBTING THOMAS
It's not impossible for Frank Thomas (left) to finish his first Blue Jays season with 25 home runs and 100 RBIs -- on paper, decent numbers. The reality, though, is quite different. Thomas basically didn't hit for half a season, which meant he didn't help the Jays when they needed it most. In his case, and many others, the numbers present an inaccurate story.
