A hoops game of confusion with Pan Ams

If they played basketball in this country like they played politics, the national teams probably wouldn’t make it out of the locker room.

Talk about confusion and miscommunication.

Canada Basketball announced on Monday that it is supporting a decision by the City of Edmonton to bid for the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship for Women — a highly sought-after tournament that would act as the qualifying event for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

A big deal, yes.

And good news, except for the fact that 2015 Toronto Pan Games organizers are apparently still hoping to convince FIBA — the governing body of international basketball — to make the Toronto Pan Am Games the qualifying tournament for the 2016 Olympics, for both men and women. 2015 Toronto Pan Am organizers realize that if their basketball tournament is NOT the Olympic qualifier, most of the best players in the Americas would probably not take part.
