Unfinished business
Driggers wants to complete season with local club
By DARREN FRIESEN -- Calgary Sun

Leaving a project unfinished is something that doesn't sit well with Nate Driggers.

But then again, he doesn't have a choice in the matter.

The veteran Calgary Drillers forward, who once played for the Boston Celtics in the NBA, hasn't officially been told the local American Basketball Association franchise has folded but he fears the inevitable.

"It's up in the air right now," said Driggers. "There's no practice today, so we don't really don't know what's going on. We just know that things ain't right. But when I start something, I like to finish it, so I hope it does continue."

Driggers and the rest of the Drillers were informed yesterday they may no longer have a future in Calgary. But he remains optimistic in light of attempts to find local owners.

"They've told us to just hold on, things are going to get taken care of," Driggers said from his hotel room yesterday. "I try to keep upbeat about things because I've been playing the game so long but it's hard to put your all into something and see it end like this."

The 6-ft. 6-in. Montivello alumnus has been enjoying his time in Calgary but he won't fall on hard times if the team folds up shop. As one of team's leaders and a veteran of pro basketball for more than a decade, Driggers is more worried about what might happen to some of his teammates when the dust has settled.

"As far as me personally, I have other opportunities because I've been getting calls from overseas and other teams in this league," Driggers said. "For the players, I feel sorry for some of them because some of them aren't going to have anywhere to play."

The Drillers (4-9) were scheduled to begin a five-game road trip tomorrow night in Colorado Springs but that has been postponed. The club's next home games were slated for Feb. 11-12 against Portland.
