Tyler Ennis and the Syracuse Orange are going home early.
Ennis, the star freshman point guard from Brampton, shook off a terrible start to put his team on his back, but missed two big shots late, allowing No. 11 seed Dayton to take flight to the Sweet 16.
His old Canadian and AAU teammate Dyshawn Pierre scored a team-best 14 points — including three clutch free throws for the second game in a row — to lift Dayton to the 55-53 upset.
Syracuse missed all 10 of its three-point attempts, including one by Ennis in the dying seconds, one of five he missed, as the Flyers escaped in a game that see-sawed back and forth after a horrendous opening 20 minutes.
Ennis drove to the bucket at will in the second half, scoring nine straight for the Orange at one point, but said afterward he didn’t feel like he had enough time or space to get all the way to the bucket when he hoisted his final two jumpers.
