Rick Pitino is on the verge of doing what many considered impossible: Win the NCAA championship at Louisville after earlier doing it with arch-rival Kentucky. It would be a historic feat if Pitino won again with any school — nobody has ever won NCAA titles with two different schools — but the history between the two schools makes this scenario by far the most interesting.

Some in Lexington are still mad Pitino left to return to the NBA after taking the Wildcats to back-to-back title games – winning in 1996 — and many more still have not forgiven him for returning to college hoops at Louisville, of all places, in 2001.

But Pitino isn’t worried about them and believes they only represent a small portion of Kentucky backers anyway.

“I don’t get into that. I love Kentucky. My eight years there were Camelot. I got nothing ever negative to say about them or their program,” Pitino said Sunday.
