The anticipation building for the debut of Andrew Wiggins puts the 6-foot-8 wing in elite company.

Expectations for a Kansas newcomer were this monstrous just a couple other times, and were generated by the likes of Danny Manning and Wilt Chamberlain. In neither case did social media exist.

Wiggins was ranked as the nation's top prospect by every recruiting service and is the frontrunner to become the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. First, however, he must adapt to the college level after the 6-foot-8 Thornhill, Ont., native starred for Huntington Prep.

While the hype surrounding Wiggins is incredible, it probably eases pressure off the remainder of a large, and talented, freshman class. Anything that group can accomplish while the glare is thrust squarely on Wiggins could actually help the Jayhawks' headliner.

Wiggins largely ignores any hype with his laid-back approach. Pressure could always build once the season begins, though Wiggins figures to keep his focus centered on team goals.

"I've got a lot of expectations for the team," Wiggins said. "We're a young team, but I know we can do a lot of damage."
