TORONTO - Andrew Wiggins has shocked the world, choosing Kansas as his NCAA destination over favourites Florida State and Kentucky, and darkhorse North Carolina.

It’s a surprising, though fitting spot for Canada’s most heralded hoops prospect ever, as he’ll be taking his talents to Lawrence, Kansas, where the game’s inventor, fellow Canadian James Naismith founded the program.

Wiggins could have headed to Kentucky to complete one of the greatest recruiting classes in history, or opted for the Seminoles, where his parents Marita Payne-Wiggins, a Canadian sprinting great and Mitchell Wiggins, a former NBAer, met and starred.

High school and CIA Bounce AAU teammate Xavier Rathan-Mayes, of Scarborough, previously committed to the Seminoles.

North Carolina has a rich history and one of Wiggins’ nicknames is the Canadian Michael Jordan, but instead, he chose the Jayhawks.

Wiggins will be close to his best friend, brother Nick, who went to the Final Four with the Wichit
