TORONTO - Three prominent members of the best Canadian crop of NCAA talent in history were honoured on Sunday.
Bramptonís Tristan Thompson a forward/centre for Texas and potential NBA lottery pick was named Big 12 freshman of the year, made the Big 12ís second all-star team and its all-freshman and all-defensive first teams.
Thompson led Texas in blocked shots (2.3 per game) and rebounding (7.7) while also scoring 13.5 points per game on 54% shooting.
His teammate and fellow freshman, Cory Joseph of Ajax also was named to the conferenceís all-freshman squad. Joseph ran the Longhornsí offence, contributing 10.5 points, 3.0 assists and a steal per game plus solid defence of his own for a team that surprisingly finished in the top 10 of the polls this season.
Meanwhile, Montrealís Kris Joseph of Syracuse made the Big Eastís third team.
The junior averaged 14.2 points. 1.5 steals and 4.9 rebounds per game for the Orange.
