LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- UCLA senior guard Ryan Walcott is heading home to finish his college basketball career.

Walcott, who has appeared in 80 games for the Bruins, has decided to transfer to Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, UCLA coach Ben Howland announced Thursday.

"I had a great time at UCLA, this is nothing against the Bruin program," Walcott said. "It's just better for me to be at home. It will be nice playing in front of my family here in Phoenix. I wish UCLA and my teammates the best for the coming season."

Walcott, who attended Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix, would be eligible to play for the Antelopes this season since Grand Canyon is an NCAA Division II school. But he has stated he will be a part-time student this year and compete during the 2005-2006 campaign.

The 6-1 Walcott leaves the Bruins with career averages of 2.5 points and 1.8 assists.

"I appreciate Ryan's hard work, effort and contributions during his years as a Bruin," Howland said. "Our staff and his teammates wish Ryan well in his future endeavors both on and off the court."
