TORONTO - It’s a good bet Raptors’ GM Masai Ujiri had no idea who his biggest competition was when it came to getting Patrick Patterson back under contract.

Turns out, it wasn’t even another team.

Patterson, the 6-foot-9 power forward who was a restricted free agent, says the most attractive alternative to returning to Toronto was the country of Brazil.

Patterson spent 10 days in Brazil during the World Cup and admitted he “almost didn’t come back” after experiencing the passion of the soccer fans there, not to mention the world-famous beaches and the scenery those beaches provide.
