Andrew Wiggins was the star of the show at Thursday’s NBA Draft after going No. 1 overall, but the Vaughan native made waves even before the event started with his eye-catching suit.

When the top 20 prospects took to the stage at Barclays Center about an hour before the draft for photos, social media was instantly set abuzz. On a night featuring multiple bowties and one player sporting purple pants, Wiggins’ style was still the boldest of the night.

The former Vaughan Secondary School, Huntington Prep (West Virginia) and University of Kansas star had on a black and white, floral print, fitted jacket, black slacks and black loafers, sans socks.

The ensemble was a major statement for the usually extremely low key, soft-spoken Wiggins.

At his introductory media conference, Wiggins was asked why he wanted to attract even more attention, given his famous, long-standing desire to try to be just a normal kid.
