BOSTON - By the time the Raptors returned home on Wednesday night, their playoff may have been determined.

At least Toronto did its part, rebounding from a near-miss in Cleveland to knock off the host Celtics 99-90.

With the win, Toronto’s magic number to earn a post-season berth was reduced to one, official entry into the NBA’s playoffs a done deal if New York lost a late-night tip in Sacramento.

The playoffs haven’t been a part of the NBA scene in Toronto since 2006 and this group, while not necessary built for the post-season, has fight and, as long as Kyle Lowry can stand on his feet, they’ve got a chance to be competitive.

When Terrence Ross is being active and draining threes, offensive options open up, but defence is what separates teams in the playoffs.

Even if the Knicks happened to beat the Kings, Toronto could still book its ticket with a win Friday night at home against the same Celtics team.
