The Raptors are going back to the future to celebrate the team's 20th season.
The 2014-15 edition of the Raptors will wear a patch evoking memories of the early days of the franchise. Purple, the primary colour for the team's initial 11 years, is back, as is the original Raptors font that was worn by the likes of Damon Stoudamire, Marcus Camby, Tracy McGrady and a young Vince Carter. The purple, font and jagged pinstripe elements from the original jersey will be combined with the current secondary claw logo. The much-reviled red dinosaur is nowhere to be seen.
“This anniversary logo embodies the excitement of both the future and the past of Raptors basketball, but most importantly, it reminds us of the success and history we’re working to create here,” said Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment president and CEO Tim Leiweke in a release.
