On a night when it looked like the Raptors were going to take one on the chin from the get-go, things got very interesting down the stretch.

DeMar DeRozan got it going in the third quarter and the defensive intensity went from a two to about 9.5 as the Raptors erased a 19-point deficit against the powerful Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night.

As it turned out, the comeback was more face-saving that it was game-changing.

The Raptors eventually crawled all the way out of the early hole they had dug themselves only to lose the lead in the dying seconds on a Damian Lillard floater.

Their final chance as they trailed by a point went for naught when DeRozan, the man most responsible for making this one a nail-biter, lost the ball on a drive to the hoop against some tight defence by Wesley Matthews.
