TORONTO - The Raptors have taken off since trading Rudy Gay for a variety of reasons. Here are five that stick out:

1. The ball is moving

  • Gay’s talented, but he had too high a belief in his own skills. Successful offences whip the ball around in search of open shots. That wasn’t happening when Gay and DeMar DeRozan were isolating on seemingly every play. Now, 20-assist games have become the norm.

2. The return of Amir

  • Amir Johnson wasn’t himself for the first five weeks of the season, but has been solid and occasionally spectacular since. Highly efficient on offence and a difference-maker at the other end, he’s one of the NBA’s’ hidden gems.
