You’ve probably noticed by now, assuming you paid attention these past two games, Jonas Valanciunas is playing less minutes and Landry Fields is playing more.

The two are directly related.

What is apparent through three games of the NBA season, two wins and a loss for the Raptors, is that Raptors head coach Dwane Casey is not prepared to live with the mistakes of youth he did a year ago with Valanciunas, particularly early in the year.

When Valanciunas was consistently unable to keep up with the likes of Al Horford on Friday in Atlanta, Casey went to his bench. It meant a little more playing time for Tyler Hansbrough and significantly more for Landry Fields, who was on the floor with the starters to finish the game.

Valanciunas played just 17 minutes.
