Andrea Bargnani got “the look” on his face as the media charged into the visiting team locker room Friday morning at the Air Canada Centre.

Guys on the Raptors beat in years past had seen “the look” dozens of times.

It used to be, during his first few years with the team, a look of panic would cross his face when the media approached. But as the years went by and the big Italian became a little more comfortable, it changed more to a look of dread, then impatience and finally resignation. Now in his eighth season in the NBA, the look is still there, though with a different team. You could, in fact, hear Bargnani sigh as the reporters rushed to form a semi-circle around him.

In 2006, when the Raptors drafted Bargnani first overall, it was supposed to be the start of a love affair between the player and fans — a first overall pick, Italian kid coming to a city with a huge Italian population. But then we were told that the kid had the temperament of “a Russian soldier”
