TORONTO - It’s only the pre-season, but a crushing blow has already befallen the Raptors.

The Raptor himself, the beloved franchise mascot and ironman has been lost for the season due to a torn Achilles suffered during a school visit in Halifax over the weekend.

While the franchise often has failed to live up to expectations over the course of its existence, the mascot never did and in fact, could be considered the most consistent employee over the years.

Unfortunately, the Day 1 hire’s long streak of not missing a game has come to an end.

The team says he will have surgery soon and a backup plan is being worked on.

Head coach Dwane Casey says his daughter cried when told of the injury and said the Raptor is a valued member of the organization who will be back.
